Can I afford Driggs, ID?
I'm looking for 20 or 40 acres in the mountains, preferably around $4,000 an acre or less. Jackson, WY is way out of my price range, and so I suspect a town like Driggs (being so close to Yellowstone, Jackson, etc.) would be out of my price range as well but you never know.
I'm not planning on living there year round, but I want to go for a month at a time to fish, ski, HIKE (my main thing), drive my jeep on some tricky mountain roads, and shoot.
My hope is that I can go all in with a small house or cottage for under $400k.
Thanks,
Doug

I would go on sites like Realtor.com and look. You might find something in that price range.

I don't know much about Driggs, I would do a bit of online research unless there are some people on here from that area.

Why don't you just save your money and camp in nice areas where you want to play. If it is only for a month at a time a couple times a year. You could then make choices of going different areas. Exploring. There are a lot of nice places in Idaho to do the things you want to do besides just Driggs. Unless you just have your heart set on the Teton area. It is pretty but so is Stanley for views and Hells Canyon for fishing and hiking. Too many places to name.
We have traveled around quite a bit and there are many places we hope to go back to to camp in the near future. Idaho has wonderful camping areas. Maybe not so good this year with all the fires. YIKES It has been bad around here. I would think you could make a lot of trips with what you would pay with the cost of the place and property taxes and insurance. Even having to rent a storage unit for your toys would be less than purchasing a place.
Just a thought.

Shades of Idaho has a great idea From the little bit of research I did after reading your post, the only thing I could see in your price range was 4-5 acres.

My husband is a realtor and did a search for you. He looked up anything under $500,000 and came up with 21 properties. If you want to check them out you can send me a private message with your e-mail address and he can send them to you. I also left you a private message. That area is beautiful!
