Default Am I right? And your opinion...

In exhaustively looking over Boise, I've come to some GENERAL conclusions which I'm hoping y'all can verify:

Meridian- Very suburbian, family, medium scale, crowded (some upscale some not)
Eagle - High brow, family, higher scale
Boise South - Micron types, engineers, BSU
Boise North End - More liberal, older homes, rustric

The reason I ask is that I have two kids and my instinct is to go for Meridian due to more modern housing, more family like, etc... but I'm starting to get attracted to the North End even though it's older. I'm pretty liberal so I'd like to be around like minds...

In your opinion, which place is best for this criteria:

- Great people - liberal - not overly uptight - relax way of thinking
- Decent housing - I would like newer, but people are more important than structures
- Schools for the kids -- really important, want them to be around just good, down-to-earth kids, people that care

So, given that, where would you recommend and why?

Thanks.

I live way up in Sandpoint but even I just can't imagine using the term "liberal" to describe anyplace or anyone in Idaho.

I suppose though, in my experience, I would say that Meridian is a touch less extreme right wing than most of the other places in the Boise area.

boise and the surrounding area are a lot less (far) right wing than canyon county. the whole state is pretty far right, in my opinion the only states thta may be more right wing are utah and texass (at least for places that i have been)

Research the Northend more because it might be your best fit according to what you are interested in. The neighborhood is very relaxed, more liberal than the suburbs, (Boise is becoming more Democrat than Republican) and is the most perfect image of what a neighborhood should be anywhere in the valley. The homes are older vintage designs and the Northend has been called one of America's most perfect historic bungalow neighborhoods. There are many families, singles, and a mix of all ages in the Northend. The Boise school district has many very attractive old grade schools scattered around the Northend and Boise High is supposed to be one of the best high schools in the state for a quality education. The best thing about the Northend is that you are living in the downtown area which is the original city area and the heart of the whole valley. There is history all around this neighborhood. Also, there are many areas of Boise you would find fitting and attractive outside of the Northend and downtown, but IMO the Northend is the best.

I doubt if down to people is what you want then Eagle is the place for you. To say that Boise is right-wing is a mis-informed statement. Look at who holds the power in Boise, you'll find most of them have a D next to their name, unlike most the state. But rather than say Boise is Democratic, i would say its more Libertarian. Our governor is a Republican but in actuallity could just as easily ran as a Libertarian, but he wouldn't have won. North end sounds like the place for you.

Don't fool yourselves, though - the Ada County Commissioners run Boise, and they're hardly liberal and/or Democrats.

Wow could not agree more. I know there are also good schools and homes in the southwest area of Boise. I did find Boise as a whole more left wing then the rest of the area. Canyon County as was stated is very left wing compared to Boise. I can only speak from Boise to twin falls as did not spend much time east of there.
