Not because of the crime rate, heck this is got to be one of the lowest crime rates in the nation. Yes we have our occasional meth labs, break ins, car robberies, bank robberies, etc. but that is really nothing to concern yourself with, crime is nothing here. As for the housing boom, folks are building houses for them to sit empty, it is for the tax write off at the end of the year. Majority of the houses here are for sale with no potential buyers, unless you are a doctor, lawyer or some sort of high charging individual. Most of the neighborhoods are trashed with junk cars and garbage. The houses that are available are junk or to high priced. In Chubbuck the law enforcement do not even force the beautification laws, they allow folks to trash their homes and they look the other way. There is one landlord who has nothing but garbage for his trailor houses, and the law condems them and does not force him to move them out. Buisnesses are shutting their doors every month, due to the fact that there is no money to be made here. You get a job never leave it. I have been unemployed for 2 months so far, due to being laid off, I have been to burger joints and they are not even hiring. I am a certified welder and there is nothing out there for me to get. I went to 8 places today 1/12/2009 and they all said the same no work here. One even said they were getting ready to lay off folks. Know when it comes to the Mormon issue, let me say these folks are the lowest in my book. They are always at your door step annoying you to go to their church, I had a couple stop by and I visited with them for a moment, my clutch was out on my truck they offered to help me fix it. I had the parts and when they were suppose to come back they did not. I have seen this alot of the time. They preach a good game with no results. If you look for the best places to live on the internet you will find Idaho rates 18th on the list. Our prison system is full and they continue to load it up rather than find better allternative solutions to the problems. Majority of our roads are really bad with no repairs in the future. Chubbuck city trucks are as old as they can get and need new ones but as we all know the budget is not there for this. I will end now but I can go on for days. I do appologize for offending any one who loves it here. But if we are going to be honest lets be honest and not blow smoke to get more folks here to get on food stamps with in a year of moving here.
Sincerely sorry for any discomfort this caused any one.

Rockmonster6,
Sounds like you have had a rough time of it. I know the economic downturn is starting to hurt here now, but I guess I need to get out of my bubble and see it more. I am amazed Pocatello/IF can go from one of the lowest unemployment rates in the nation to this state in a few short months.
There are still jobs in the classifieds, is that not what you are looking for? Let me know what kind of work you are after and I'll keep my ears open and maybe things will turn around for you.
I agree with you on the state prison system, btw. When prison funding starts rivaling education let's find some alternatives. That and the regressive sales tax on groceries are my Idaho gripes.
Hope the best for you,
