Where I am located we only had a few, very few bad days of smoke. I live in the almost direct center of the state and had fires on south, north, east and west of us. I visited my daughter in Helena,MT and they had it really bad due to inversion factor. I have a son who lives in REAL N. Ca and nothing is worse than the rice burning !! and smog.

Smoke
Here in Salmon, it was a bad year for smoke, we had a lot of days you couldn't see the mountains and the smell was terrible, most of our smoke this year came from the huge fire near Jackpot, Nv and some from Boise and Stanley fires. But I was told that Idaho had an unusual amount of fires this year, and that it's usually a few weeks. So I'm praying next summer will not be as bad.

WE had about half a million acres burning with in 100 miles of us. Yep we had smoke. not many houses were lost. Certainly not like CA.
We have 8 acres and try to be sure to create fire breaks by keep the tall grasses eaten down by borrowed horses and the lawn mower around the house.
Fire out back. That is our back fence. We were not in danger. The wind was blowing towards the fire and away from us.

Yellowpine.
Wildfires are a none issue if you live in a typically residential neighborhood in Nampa, Caldwell, Boise etc.... Live in the Foothills or McCall that is another story.

Pokadots,
We live in Cambridge. I was never afraid on this one because it was past us and the wind 99 % of the time bolws the wrong way for that fire to come back and get us. We are ,I guess, in the foot hills about 59 miles from McCall.
Kitty and I sat in my office and watched the fire one night way into the early morning. Not because I was afraid. Just a person does not see something like this often.
The problem with the fires in California is there are too many people down there and the houses are so close together . One goes they all go and the winds were so strong.
We had floods here too. Not in the house we have now. THEN I was terrified being trapped in the house for over 24 hours.

Now by the off chance we do end up with a lot of rain this year, we'll be dealing with mudslides in all of the burn areas.

Mostly in the mountain areas. The fires burn away all the vegetation holding the soil in place, then when it rains....look out
