It is not just going to ba a race track. There is an expo center as well as a drag srtip dirt track and bmx and moto cross I believe. They will be able to host any thing that the idaho center can with more room for parking.

So it is redundant AND further away from the population center. I'm just saying it is more embarrassing to have a "if you build it they will come - then no one comes" situation rather than something never being developed. That's what they thought about the South China Mall...and if anyone has heard of that or done their research...pretty embarrassing.

I really don't like nascar at all, but i think that it would be good for the economy of Mountain Home. I also think it is very possible to build a stadium that holds 100 k for a nascar event, since they would only have one a year and people from SLC to Portland would travel in to see the race. you only need to sell out once a year to pay for it, the minor races wouldn't be sellouts obviously, but I think the one huge event a year would make up for it. I just haven't heard anything about it lately.

We have family that owns a lot of property in the area of the proposed NASCAR speedway and they have been approached by people from nascar about purchasing some. So to me that means its on its way.. when who knows.

Redundant..........No, not anywhere near the same comparison. And what would not only be embarrassing but a huge loss of income for the state ,would be to pass up this opportunity for Idaho, only to let a neighborering state reap all of the rewards this will bring in. there is a very large fan base in north western US and Canada. Believe me, this is something NASCAR is very well a where of. The currant NASCAR season is almost totally booked as far as adding more race dates, so for them to be seriously looking at building another track, there has to be good reason to believe it will be successful, considering other tracks on the schedule now have gone so far as to file lawsuits trying to get a second date each year.
As for "being further away from the population"............. For some strange reason, when the "population" starts getting developed to close to these types of facilities, they do everything in their power to shut them down. Kind of like the guy that buys a house next to an airport then starts complaining about airplane noise

Don't think of a NASCAR race as a single race. Most weekends are really a 3-day event between qualifying, the Nationwide race and the Sprint Cup race. Because of that fans come from all around, many with their motor homes, to camp out. I don't think Boise's isolation would be a huge issue. I bet fans from Seattle, Portland, Salt Lake and Denver
One interesting issue, given the relatively high percentage of LDS people in Idaho and Utah, would be if NASCAR will run the Sprint Cup race on Saturday or Sunday. My guess is that Boise's isolation would play a factor in that decision and they will run the race on Sunday so that the Nationwide race could be run on Saturday.
