... new at this forum thing ... hope I'm doing it right ... here goes ...
... thinking about relocating my family to White Bird, or thereabouts. I am self-employed ... have my own small excavation business ... Two questions: (1) Will I be able to find sufficient work in the general area (50 mile radius) to support my family. (2) What are the winters really like ... I need to hear from someone who has first had experience ... I've been fooled in the past by climate "averages." Thanks ... Please email me directly: wygiwys@hotmail.com |

If you are looking for a whole in the earth that what you will find. The town is right off Hwy 95 and you look down into it. Its about hour and a half maybe 2 hrs from McCall and the next town is Grangeville and that is mostly farming few resturants and gas stations not much else. There maybe 300 people. Not even sure theres a school might be.
You might try Riggins or New Meadows and in between more work but, I believe they were discussing closing the school in Riggins due to not enough kids. Lots of people homeschool in that area. Hope this helps probably not what you wanted to hear. |

Wildberries is right. We also throught Whitebird was very hot in the summer. We looked at a couple of places to buy there but it is not to our liking either. Now it is pretty to look at and the old highway road trip is sort of fun if you have nothing better to do but once you have done it then what? I DO NOT like comming down Whitebird Hill from Grangeville. The run away truck turn offs worry me.
There is a nice little town not too far from Grangeville called NesPierce. We thought it looked to be a really nice looking town. Maybe check into what is available there. We might too someday if it developes here too much for us. Chris |
