Who says I wasn't saying anything positive? I'm just setting expectations. I happen to like the fact that it's brown everywhere and the houses are all dingy ranches.
I grew up there and know it as well as anyone. If you haven't seen it yet, you should rent Napoleon Dynamite. The scenery will give you a very good idea of the area (even if it was filmed in Preston).
Oh, and did I mention that when the wind blows from the north it smells like stockyard, and when it blows from the south your bushes fill with plastic bags?

The lab on the map is the Idaho National Lab AKA The Site; it's Dept. of Energy site and the major employer for the state.

I lived there for 14 yrs, have only been gone for 1 yr, so yes I do know IF very well. Drove through Rigby all of the time to get to Mud Lake to take my son fishing. I lived in the "bad" areas as well, Garfield and Pine then moved out to a lil "farm" house out in Milo. I do know the area VERY well ! ! ! They Taylor View Stake Center was built by my ex father in law. The stake center across from the hospital was built by the same man. The wall behind Target, and that strip mall was built by the same man. The semenary at the high school in Ammon was built by him as well and I was there with them. The Brownstone along the Green Belt was redone by the same man. He also did the Applebee's place. My best friend use to live on Sahara. My husbands family started Nulph Brothers Trucking in Shelley as well as Triple N Farms. Tell me how do I not know Idaho Falls???
What windowless highschool? They have a brand new highschool in Iona!!!! Rigby's schools are all only a few yrs old.
They have trees all over, it isn't all brown and there are many nice places to live in IF. I daho Falls is a very good place to move and don't listen to someone who doesn't want any one from Cali to move here!

Thank you my3arab,
Maybe you can help me find the positive side of IF. I don't mind hearing the pros and cons...but I knew it couldn' t all be con. Are the tree named streets that the city website talk about a better place to look in IF. Also what do you think of Rigby? Any other towns around IF that we should look at. We are looking for something under $180,000. but still get the most sq. ft. and bedrooms for the dollar.
Thanks again,
Catch you later.

Ririe is like Shelley, Ucon is a lil better than Shelley & Ririe but still a closed community.
The west side of IF is growing slowly with some real nice homes and trailer parks. But they are working on it.
I think that IF is a better choice for kids to grow in up than Boise.

Why no to Blackfoot?
We met a lady that lives in Shelley and she was so very sweet! She was excited for us and was super nice about us moving from Ca.

So you were there when the Target wall, the strip mall, the seminary and the Applebee's were built? A proud legacy. I apologize. You are a local.
It seems we see the same places but differ on aesthetics. So what's your take on the Northgate Mile? A "real nice" shopping street?

Familiar at all with that brick/cement bunker called Bonneville HS? What new HS in Iona are you referring to?

Trees all over? In the Snake River Valley? Ahh yes the sagebrush trees. Lovely foliage but not much good for shade.
And you've hurt my feelings. You accuse me of telling people from Cali not to come here. That's not true, I want *everyone* not to come here. It's for their own good, really.

Im also from central cali, santa maria....dont tell old timers youre from cali. ignorance and attitude. they think cali is all like L.A. Idaho Falls is not brown. Elko Nevada is brown. IF has trees, lotsa pines too which will still be green under the white snow.Rexburg is the nicest area near IF. 26 miles north but an easy drive on 20. and less expensive.College town tho, 90% under 25 years of age, 60% female, and 90% LDS.Youll need to go to IF to party. No bars or clubs here, in town is dry, but you can get alcohol just across city limits line..no big deal, also at Albertsons for wine and beer.I cant wait to get back to Cali. This is where outlaws, tweakers and rednecks come to die.

izzy - do some searches on threads already in the Idaho Forum. Many people have already posted numerous questions the past year about Pocatello, Blackfoot, Shelley, Idaho Falls, etc. I think you'll find a lot of good info there. To me, there are negatives and postives about here and any state, but for our family, the positives far outweigh any negatives. I happen to love the smell of sagebrush! I have helped two relatives do an extensive amount of real estate searching in the $150K and lower range over the last 2 months in this area, and there are several good agents out there. DM me if you want the one we used. Be sure to visit before buying and do a lot of driving around. There are always people down on an area. I encourage them to live other places in the U.S., and then decide. Everyone has a place they most love to call home.
