Need More Info On Lewiston
Hi,
We are considering moving from Seattle to the Lewiston area. We are retired and looking for a place that is ..pretty, safe, and with reasonable weather.
It's hard to move from a temperate climate on the coast, to an area with cold weather and snow. We have heard that the Lewiston area has just such a climate.
Also want a reasonably small town feel. Just big enough to accomodate the things important to seniors.
We are in our late 60's and still very active. We love hiking and fishing along with taking short daytrips to see the beauty of the areas. I was born in Wallace but left that area when I was only 2 years old.
Hope we can get some constructive input on Idaho with Lewiston in particular.
Thanks .......Jim P

We also are considering the move to Lewiston-Clarkston.
Just joined this site today. We are also considering moving up north to Idaho. My wife is from the Walla Walla area and has relatives in the Lewiston-Clarkston area. We also wouldn't mind finding out info on this "banana belt" area. Thanks. Vincent

Hi Vincent,
Birds of a feather flock together. Looks like were both on the same trail.
You didn't mention where your from. Have your relatives in Lewiston got any good info to share ?? So many issues to look at if your fussy about where you build your last nest. Maybe we could share some info during this process?
I am treating this as a private message post, but being new here I'm not sure yet what I'm doing. I'll go ahead and send it and see where it pops up, or wait for your reply.
Jim P

Did either of you find out anything about Lewiston? We have our home in N. Cal listed and plan to head out at the end of the year. We have been looking at different areas, but some friends visited the Lewiston and Hagerman areas and loved them. Weather, shopping and medical are important.
Thanks for any help
Em

Hagerman, located along the Snake River, in Southern Idaho is beautiful. Thousand Springs is to die for. Twin Falls is close, so major shopping and medical are close. It does get cold in the winter, but not much snow. It also does get hot in the summer.
Lewiston is very pretty. The major drawback to Lewiston is the pulp plant, Potlatch. Very smelly!!! Visit both in winter and summer so you'll know what you're getting into.

To.... ONTHEGO,
Read my post on IDAHO board. Page 3, "Looking for info on Walla Walla or Clarkston", by Vincent Silva.
This will give you the info I found while visiting Lewiston.

Lewiston Idaho
Have to agree with the 'aroma' of Potlach on a windy day, but, I must say that the Lewiston/Clarkston Valley is one of the best places in the world for the outdoor enthusiast. The snake river, clearwater river & Grande Ronde river are all right at your doorstep. Nothing compares to hells canyon (accessed by boat), the blues mountains, and the mild weather. The clouds just seem to miss the valley. It snows on the hill but melts before it hits the valley. If your looking for that slower pace, this is the place. Lived there for 6 years, went to college there and moved on but definately would return. May not be the place to seek high-dollar employment though unless you are a professional -- just a typical small city.
Good Luck!

This is the place for you!
Mild winters...VERY mild. If it snows, chances are it's melted by noon. Summers can be unbearably HOT, I'll warn you. Triple digits are not uncommon in July and August. We're only 738ft above sea level (downtown) so the climate is awesome! The valley just got it's first Walmart SUPERCENTER so we must be on the map now! lol! We have Costco, as well as more places to eat per capita that anywhere within 100 miles! They used to call 21st Street "Restaurant Row"!
I've lived here 45 years...and LOVE IT!
Welcome!
