The secession "dreams" of various states are nothing more than desperate manifestos spouted by white racist militia groups.

People throw around the word "liberal" without knowing anything about anything. Got a problem--blame the "liberals."

There is no chance of Idaho or Boise "turning left." If people in Idaho believe Walt Minnick is a "crazy Liberal," I rest my case....

While "white racist militia groups" might support succession for their own reasons, plenty of other people support succession for different reasons, and it isn't fair to brand them all white racists.

Nope. Not even. More like the people who are tired of being overlooked for state funding and because it goes to the more heavily populated places like Boise, Seattle, etc and people who feel like their votes can't compete with the huge voting blocks in the cities. That's who I hear it from. Not ever, ever having run into a white racist militia type...I have no idea what their viewpoints are.

Pretty broad sweeping generalizations here. I have heard no talk of secession from any white racist militia groups because I don't associate with any of those people (and I would actually challenge you to produce viable evidence of more than a handful of nut jobs). I have mostly heard that sort of view from business owners and people who view themselves in the "Don't Tread on Me" sort of mindset...those folks, most of whom are either North Idaho natives or long time residents, look at the duality of Idaho.

So are Northern Californians hispanic haters because they talk about how it would be good to have their own state?

Look at the product of a socialized nation. Compare that to a vibrant free enterprise nation. The math is simple. Entrepreneurs breed ingenuity. Socialists breed stagnation and dependence on big government. Idaho represents the spirit of what America really is all about, independence and a strong work ethic. I will take Idaho every time. I like people who look at government with a jaundiced eye. I don't trust people who want to take care of me.......

Secession is something people talk or dream about because they are tired of other parts of the country that no longer work.

In 1985 or so the Spokesman-Review did an insert to the paper on the new state. It included eastern Washington, north Idaho, western Montana, northeast Oregon and southern BC and Alberta. Basically, the trading area for Spokane at that time.

It was about a 100 pages and an inclusive look at the area. It covered the economy, social and cultural outlook, politics, etc. It was a great snapshot in time for the area.

They also asked their readers to name the new state. The state name chosen was Columbia.

Which is interesting since Washington state was almost named Columbia, but Congress changed it since they thought it would be too confusing with the District of Columbia as Washington DC was more commonly called in the late 1800 century.

The topic of state splitting is definately not new, and not unique to idaho.
When I lived in northern california, (and yes , Im talking WAYYY north of SF, lol) in the 80's and 90's, there were plenty of us who would have loved to have a split in the state. It goes without saying that SoCal was/is SOOOO different from the rest of the state and it is frustrating to have our lives being affected by their needs/desires. At the time, the name that was sought after was Jefferson. But as nice as it sounds, it really seems to be an illusive ideology that resurfaces from time to time.

Only ONE little Blue county in Id.... And its where the Hollywierd folks like Ashton Cutcher go to pretend they are roughing it....
actually teton county and latah county were blue this election
and boise is not conservative as you think. Ada county was 49/51.. very close indeed... meridian and west boise conservative yes.. that is the 51 percent this go around..
I don't see idaho becoming a hard blue state anytime soon, but I certainly can see it becoming a swing state..
I'm a liberal that does not believe in curbing gun laws..
it is expressed in our constitution.. I value and respect that.
before you go blasting liberals, be careful you aren't painting with the same wide brush you think they are painting you with...

Anyone else ever hear of this idea?
If Texas can't do it then Idaho surely can't.

I totally understand this concern and feeling... but you can't have it both ways. Many of you fled the cities to live in a remote unpopulated part of the state.. and then you want to complain about not being represented? You're represented according to your population.. it just so happens you are out voted and your part of the state doesn't require as much attention for funding. Mind you on transportation and infrastructure funding rural parts of idaho recieve more funding per capita than boise or other populated areas
So when you drive down a nicely paved road so you can get to town, realize that more tax money per capita went towards building and maintaining that road so you can get to town easily and safely.
There are trade offs to all of it, but I think it's important to put things in perspective.
and by "you" I don't mean you.. just in general
