I am originally from Idaho Falls, and you are a little off on your assesment. Idaho Falls is close to the areas you mentioned, but I.F. is also close to much more beautiful areas which are in Idaho like Island Park, the Rocky Mountains of Idaho such as the Lost River Mountains, the Lemhi Mountains, the Salmon River Mountains, the Pioneer Mountains/Copper Basin, the extremely beautiful Sun Valley area and the Boulder Mountains, Stanley, the Sawtooths, the White Clouds, and the list could go on and on and on. Who needs Montana or Wyoming when you are in Idaho

But, since I grew up in I.F. I know that some people feel more comfortable going to the predominant cowboy/western themed Jackson Hole than going to the more European/posh Sun Valley/Ketchum area. Both are pretty, but the Wood River Valley is much more serene.
True, the LDS church does have a very large influence on the way of life in Eastern Idaho, but Idaho Falls isn't as LDS as it used to be BUT regardless the Church has very deep roots in Idaho Falls and its presence is felt, but Idaho Falls is a large enough town that there is religious diversity and mentality diversity.
The Falls is a great little city that has been destined for great things ever since it was founded, and believe it or not, one thing that has made it a great place is the religious foundation that has, is, and will always be part of the way of life in Idaho Falls.
