Question Relocating to Idaho

Hi everyone,

My husband and I have a few job prospects in Idaho and will be relocating there shortly. Basically the offers stem from Boise and Pocatello.

Our children are all grown so it will just be the two of us with our two little dachshunds and a house cat.

We're not interested in living near schools since our last child just left the nest, nor are we interested in churches since we're not religious. We're just interested in finding a nice neighborhood that we both can live and enjoy each day together in the beauty of Idaho. We're both in our early 50's, live a very quiet life and mind our own business.

I guess the biggest shock for our neighbors will be when we dress in our Native American regalia to attend powwows! hehehe...

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I would be very interested to find out the areas that we should stay away from - if there are any!

Thank you in advance,
Sunny Eaglesong

If it aids in your decision making, Pocatello is right outside of Ft. Hall reservation. I'm clueless about any on the other side of the state

Thanks Cleosmom for your help! Well, it really is kinda hard making a decision about where to live since we're drawn to jobs in both areas! hehehe

I've looked online this morning at homes in Meridian, Star, and Eagle - and although they're beautiful too...um... not sure if we can afford to live there!

On the other hand I've been looking at homes near Pocatello and they're all so beautiful! Although...I'm not at all familiar with the areas of Fort Hall, St. Anthony, Idaho Falls, Blackfoot, and Moore but the homes I've found there are very reasonable.

If you know anything about these areas I would love to know more about them.

Thank you SO very much in advance!
Sunny

I don't think that your husband would want to commute from anywhere north of Pocatello, especially in winter. Which Blackfoot, Idaho Falls, St. Anthony and Moore are all north. St. Anthony being the extreme at being over two hours away from Pokey.

Wow, thank you so much for that information. You very kind to help us! This information will surely help us a lot. I hope we get to meet someday so that we can thank you personally

Well, I guess, we'd better stick to looking at just Pocatello then since it seems that American Falls and Aberdeen might be too far also!

Thanks again!
Sunny

American Falls is only about 25 miles away from Poky and many that live there commute to Poky. It is cheaper to live there but the housing isn't as nice as most of the neighborhoods in Poky. My step sons live there and they are in an old double wide. It seems that in American Falls you are either very wealthy or very poor. There are some beautiful homes there in one of the new housing areas but watch out for the way they are built. Most of them are built with their driveways on a slope, and the slope is back into the garage.

Ft Hall has a festival every August and my children, son & daughter are always there. My ex is a fireman on the Rez and is finally getting our kids into their Native Culture.

Good luck with your search!

Thanks my3arabs! I'll check it out online. Sounds like an interesting place

Do you have any idea about the Ft Hall area? Meaning, what it's like to live there? I found a cute little house for sale there and was surprised that it's been on the market for over 2 years. I found that rather odd...

Thanks again!
Sunny

Hi, Sunny!

I am a real estate agent who has lived in both the Pocatello area and Boise area. Chubbuck is the best area in Pocatello to live. It houses the mall, Wal-mart, Home Depot, etc. It also had more land open than right in Pocatello. There is a ski hill: Pebble Creek near by. American Falls reservoir is only about 15 minutes away. You will also be close to Blackfoot Indian Reservation, so no one will surprised at your regalia!

As far as Boise goes, it depends on how much "city" you want. Eagle is a hot spot right now for suburban living. If you want less city, then you will need to look closer to Star and Mountain Home on the other side. Boise is a geat city with much more to do than the Pocatello area. I am actually living in McCAll, which is two hours up the canyon from Boise. A lot of Boise people come up the canyon for recreation:skiing, boating, hiking, fishing, etc.

If I can help you out with more information, please e-mail me at: sheilakibler@mountainwest.info
I am a Remax agent here in McCAll, and we are also part of the Boise Multiple Listing Service

Hope this helps a little!
Sheila Kibler
