well i came from oregon and now live in north carolina. its very different here. crime is very high im in greensboro. im not racist but there is a high population of blacks. i used to live in calif, and that never bothered me, but out here its differnt. there is so much crime, murders, assults ect.. not a safe plce to live. kernersville is about 25 minutes away its nicer, a little mellower. but crime is just getting more intence. schools are better in kernersville. durahm is like La calif. ghetto. there are tornados here as well. tenessee is pretty i would look into johnson city nice area no tornados, low crime, schools are good, weather is great all 4 seasons but nothing extreme. the rest of tenessee is tornado valley. north carolina is hotter and yuckier than las vegas. the humidity is terrible when you are not use to it, and bugggs everywhere. if you have pets. yikes. major flea and tick problems in general. you can look that info up. so if i were to do it again i would have gone to tenessee johnson city area. no income tax. better pay. north carolina is like idaho in that area. and the weather is much better in tenessee. not alot of crime, probably cuz there is not as many blacks. not racist, i promise you. i know that sounds bad but there is just so much violence with a higher population. jobs have been real tough in nc and it seems that intence crime has risen due to that.i lived in las vegas and have seen and hear much more here in the triad area of north carolina. im looking to go back to idaho, not to mention all that talk about great food out in the south. we are still looking. the west will always be the best.....

Hi all,
New here this is my 1st post. Husband & I moved to Coeur D Alene 2 years ago from Michigan and we love it.We followed my parents here. We moved here to get some of that slower paced friendly living. If thats backwards I am more then happy to be backwards ![]() Any locals or people who have been here for many many years have been nothing but friendly & helpful. Any issues with people being unfriendly have actually come from other transplants like us. I will admit I have had someone tell me your lucky you did not say you are from CA as a joke , I do not think they were really joking though. So my opinion based on what you have said & if you embrace the life rather then try change it, you should not have an issue with the majority of people. My husband is in a similar type feild and had work 2 days after we moved here. Many people he has worked with from CA applied prior to moving so that might be an option for you. Having come from Michigan.,I am used to the winters so that helped. I have to say even though it is colder it feels warmer , Its much prettier to look at & more activities to enjoy it ![]() Summers for us are much warmer and dry so that was also a plus. |

I was raised here in North ID, lived in Southern CA for 8 years (Woodland Hills) and moved back here 2 years ago to Coeur d'Alene. My husband and I are in our late 20's and have 1 small child and I love Coeur d'Alene. The whole issue about being a Californian was never an issue for us and I kept my plates on my car for 4 months! Sorry I have no insight regarding your two careers but I would highly recommend CDA as a wonderful, reasonably priced place to live and raise a family

"I remember riding with a friend of mine in his truck over by Boise with California plates on his truck; in 6 hours of driving we were flipped off 5 times."
LOL, and to think most of them came from CA !!! From up here we call them Boise_puekers. They are so rude!! |

I think Coeur d'Alene is the greatest summer resort town in America. It is stunningly beautiful has a "cool" downtown...pretty much everything you could want in a vacation destination. My "assumption" is that it clears out from Nov-April and turns into a quiet town...
Now all that needs to happen is a nice 4-lane highway to be paved in a straightshot from Boise to Coeur d'Alene and I might pack my bags tomorrow! ![]() |

I'm a 10th generation native Californian, just married in my mid twenties and can't afford to live in California anymore. Literally can't afford it. It's very upsetting to be forced out of one's home state. That being said, I'm looking into Idaho, and am well aware of the stigma attached to Californians over in Idaho. I do understand, becuase the more people that come into a place tend to screw everything up and people don't like that. (I live in CA, so I know) But people have to be able to try to make the best life they can for their family. Everyone is really trying to do the same thing in the world... with afew exceptions.... of course. Everyone has to have a place to live and that's just the way it is. I've been looking into Idaho for a couple years now, and I need some opinions as to where the best job market is for 2 professionals in their mid twenties. I'm a Paralegal, and my husband is a Journeyman Plumber.... I read a bunch of conflicting info about the job market in Coeur d'Alene, Moscow and Boise. I don't want to be completely disillusioned, if someone would tell me how it is there, really is, how hard it is to find a job, etc.. I would greatly appreciate it! It's hard to be an outsider looking in .... especially when anything looks better than California. Thank you so much for your time everyone- and have a nice day! hi there i am from boise id, and have lkived about everywhere else you can think of but cali, i would like to go there but know that it is very expensive like you say well i will tell you that the best place is probably boise, its the largest and it is alright and there are plenty of jobs there, i only dont really like it because of my husbands race we are multi cultured and people there are not that cool if you feel me, but it is apretty good place to live and it is ver y affordable Well, if you have had an experience in Boise that was unfortunate and due to the multi-cultural aspect of your relationship I apologize for whatever idiot did it. However, I hope you all know that for the most part, that in Idaho, and Boise especially, race just isn't an issue. We have Blacks, Whites, Hispanics, Asians, Middle Eastern descents, ect. and I have never seen it be a real issue anywhere. I am white myself, I'll be honest but I have been raised here all of my life and have had friends of all those heritages and races and the color of skin has never been an issue. Idaho other than being somewhat conservative (not in all parts of the state tho) is kind of a place of middle ground. While it is not always the case, people are just kinda accepted here no matter who they are or where they come from. We are the beginning of a melting pot and we are developing at our own pace. Also you should't have a problem finding work. There are a lot of law offices in Boise, as well as other cities in the state, and I see job ads for plumbers (especially journeyman plumbers pretty frequently). There are always jobs tho so even if you had to take something else for a while you should be able to find something without a problem, but like I said, with your two careers it shouldn't be all that hard. Idaho in and of itself is truly beautiful and the best part about Boise is you can live in the suburbs or the city and you are literally an hour or two away from the mountains, lakes, streams, camping, ect. and there are tons of things to do. And just so you don't feel too bad, surveys have been conducted over the last several years that show while there are a ton of Californian's coming to Idaho and the Boise area, the boom in housing costs is actually from locals or people from other states. So don't feel too bad, altho realize that all traffic is not behind you if you come here. Idaho can compete with the best of the smaller cities. Good luck! |

My area gets lots of snow and for now the work is depressed. Hoping for work picking up come spring. ![]() You have to like snow and more snow to live here and all the snow actives/work that comes with it. |

Well, yes, I've been through the Riggins area in August also and it registered 117° on the car temperature. Up here around G'ville it's much more down in the decent temps. Especially down along the S Fork of Clearwater. By 6pm it's so nice out on the deck and we open up the house for the nite. I keep shaking my head wondering why I want to move over to Helena,MT to be closer to my daughter and grandkids? lol Our winters down here are so mild also. I hope the grandkids realize how much gram loves 'em !!
