Default Maybe consider MT

My family moved from Boise, ID to Missoula, MT. MT is more laid back. Definately, you will not hear as much rap - more of a bluegrass type crowd. It's not as crowded as Idaho, summer's are cooler. Not as much traffic, not as much strip malls, not as much crime. Have I convinced you yet?

How do their respective winters compare?

I'm a winter lover so I really enjoy MT winter's better. There is more snow on the ground here - it sticks. Whereas, the Boise area (where I grew up) they get snow but it really doesn't stay. It does get pretty cold, but generally most winter days last it's in the teens.

Sounds like Boise'd be more for me, I like having 4 seasons but with a relatively mild winter

Idaho will become famous soon enoughIdaho will become famous soon enough
Have you looked at the Panhandle region of Idaho?
Sandpoint, Bonners Ferry, Hayden Lake, Coeur d'Alene?
Great skiing, great fishing/hunting, 4 seasons,
and even a reasonable number of "shopping malls" to choose from.
If that's not enough, Spokane,WA is close enough to go for the day, and more "city" like.
