Hi,
Idaho was a great transition for my husband and I. We moved to Boise just about 5 years ago from Vancouver, WA. due to work. Is there a reason you are looking at Payette? Do you have a job lined up? I would recommend coming for a visit if you haven't all ready. I wish I could tell you more about Payette, but I'll leave that to someone else who might have more info. Just wanted to reach out to you and let you know that Idaho has been a great move for us.

Payette is one of those cities that I am really impressed with.
Every time I go there, I see a lot of young families. That's a good sign. It's affordable and its a place where young people are moving.
I'm pretty sure that the Ontario/Payette area has some of the lowest unemployment in the Northwest.

We have to go through Payette on the way to Ontario. We think it is a nice town. There are lots of neat older houses on tree lined streets. It has a sort of old time main street. In general the town is fairly clean nicely kept up. There is the train that runs through town. I LOVE trains. Some do not.It is certainly larger than Cambridge where we live now. I like the dog groomer there too.
Just do not get on the down side of the river. There was a big flood in 1997 and it hit Payette along with a lot of Idaho pretty hard. Just check where the houses you are looking at are compared to the river. ASK about it and be insistant because the information might not be volunteered to you.
There is a slightly newer , 60's or newer guessing, housing areas up on the hill side of Payette more tract type housing. All in all we think it is a nice town. It is also close to shopping in Ontario, Oregon.

I grew up in Payette and still have to go there to see my mother.
There is little good I can say about Payette, then or now.
It's a place full of drunks, drink drivers, drugs and drug abusers domestic violence..
But people in payette.. they don't like to talk about those kinds of things.
It's better, they believe, to ignore it.. and maybe it will go away.
Payette Idaho is like any small town in any Stephen King book.
So many secrets to hide.
This is a township who believes in very little.
This is a township that thinks growth is equivalent to sudden death.
In this quaint little middle class mom and apple pie american town, you are sure to find the stagnant remnants of a present history. A place where things never change. People just get older, and breed more people just exactly like themselves.
There is no place for children, or bored youth.
Some time ago, on a trip back into Payette, I noticed a skate-park had been built on the east end of 'the big park'.
Wonderful Idea.. for the possibly 3 or four kids who actually know how to skate.
Payette is a place where you go to drink on Saturday, and church on Sunday.
It's a town where racial slurs are as common as wrangler jeans and pick up trucks.
Payette is a town where homophobia is not only widely acceptable, but also expected.
Payette is a place where diversity is not accepted, but rather shunned.
It is the perfect place to grow your 'big fish little pond' attitude. Most people in payette believe they are supreme beings. A gift, to the rest of us.
Children are second class citizens there in good ol' Payette Idaho, USA. Their lives not worth a pack of cigarettes.
Need proof? Walk in to Meechams Resturaunt at any time, night or day. There you are almost sure to find mothers and/or fathers with their toddlers in one arm, a cigarette in the other hand.
Teens are second class citizens in Payette Idaho. From early in the morning until 2 AM, you will find the parents of these strugging to get through this messed up life kids at the bars... and after the bars close? Yep.. try Meechams. It's a local hotspot.
The kids have nothing to do there.
And nobody cares.
No theatre. No rink of any kind.
No public tennis courts.
No youth center
No Fun Center, anymore.
No programmes for kids.
But Payette has Bars, Churches, and Meechams 24 hours a day.
Payette Is a wonderful place, if you like stale attitudes, republican politics, the american flag wrapped around hate speech.
It's a wonder I made it out alive.
It's no wonder my brother didn't.

I haven't ask them lately, but my grandmother and aunt have lived there since the 40's and seem to like it. I haven't been to Payette since '93 so maybe things have changed?? I don't know.

Usually when someone is so upset by an area or town that they spend endless energy telling about how bad it is, it's because they have had a serious problem in their lives involving that town. I hear horrible things said about my town in AZ occasionally but I know personally it is all a matter or perception...it'sbeen a nice little town for me and mine. That's why I would never ask anyone's opinion on a town... everyone's opinion is based on their personal experience. Check out Payette for yourself and speak to the residents one on one. Then decide.

Or... Maybe it could be that I have had the opportunity to travel throughout the world and view life from several points of view. Maybe it could be because when I go back to payette the only visible growth is a new stop light.
It maybe that it's fine for you and yours. It may be that you are part of the problem of continuous stagnant attitude. I don' t know. I am not demeaning you. I do know however that you can never fully recognize a problem, if you are blind to it.

Lived in Idaho since 2001 been gone for a year and unless law enforcement has been super busy Payette was Meth Lab central teens in trouble all the time. The high school smoke pot on campus and get away with it. Several major robberies happening in Midvale and Cambridge while I lived there can be linked to people from Payette. Fruitland better place to live. I am moving back in few months and will find place in Fruitland, Middleton, or Parma area. Weiser better than Payette. Lastly let me add they have child sex offenders living accross the street from the park and the schools.
