Mom2JJz,

I'll have to agree with all of the posts about your political affiliation. But first, Ron Paul is so conservative he's liberal, and vice versa.

My time in North Idaho revealed to me that the area is very live and let live. As long as you don't go protest outside a gun shop, you'll be fine. Ron Paul is popular in N. Idaho because he shares this attitude.

If you think you're going to have a hard time finding a job, you're probabably correct. That's the only reason I've been a tourist and not a resident of the area.

If you are into organic gardening, etc. then I would give Moscow a second look. The soil is great there, and while the scenery isn't as nice, just drive 10 miles north and you're in the trees.

Other places to look: Oregon has plenty of meth, but is liberal and you sound like you'd fit in well. There are tons of small towns here, though, which are pretty clean and close to employment. Most of the meth problems are concentrated around towns that have been hit hard by logging being shut down.

If living around fellow leftists is what you want, but not the drugs, you may check Flagstaff, AZ. Dittos for Missoula, MT.

Funny you say Oregon...that was my first choice, but the pollution there is actuallly worse than where I live now. Eugene has a bout 5x the pollution levels of Phoenix! They are also one of the top 5 states for cancer rates, etc. and to be quite honest with you, I don't think it is a very live and let live atmosphere over there. People seem very opinionated...to the point where it seems invasive of personal right of thought and speech, unless you agree with everthing they liberal community says.

I am not really a leftist, I just don't really relate to the old traditional conservative views of questioning nothing, and obeying giant.

I am really looking for a non religious close community where family values are still important, but free thought and speech is not condemned. A more "to each their own" type of place. You won't see me outside of a gun shop protesting anything, by the way... unless it is in protest of their guns being taken by the government.

Flagstaff is still in AZ, so that is not an option to me.

On the "live and let live" part, I was still referring to Idaho. Sorry for the confusion. And most of the loonies are in Eugene or Portland anyway.

As far as the pollution, I don't know about Eugene, but I do have a difficult time believing that there is more pollution here than in PHX. I flat out don't like Eugene so I don't go there often.

One drawback I do find here, though, is the amount of allergens with all of the agriculture. Allergy season is pure hell.

All in all, I love northern ID. Awesome scenery and recreation. I'm also a fan of old mining and ghost towns, so it suits me well. BTW, the Silver Valley just east of CDA is pretty much one big superfund site. Still fun to visit, though. And they are a bit quirky there, may be a place to check out.

Oh, and George W. Bush is not a conservative! Optional wars, huge spending, lawlessness on the border while he fiddles... Goldwater rolls in his grave every time someone calls Bush a conservative. Especially "traditional" conservative!

DD et al,

We're getting into political views now, which we need to keep out of the state forums, sorry. Probably best to end this thread to avoid needing to move it outa here...

I think if a political issue is directly related to the state of Idaho, and it is in answering a question by a persepective resident it should be allowed to stay in the state's forum. It would be largely ignored in the politics forum because it would be so specific. But, that's your call my friend.

Sage,
Idea...... Any chance of the forum creating local political threads in each state?

So what are the other towns around Sandpoint like Bonners Ferry and Clark Fork like, or known for? I know growing up in a small town there was a wealthier town, hippie town, low income town, etc. Someone had mentioned Bonners Ferry but it seemed to be more of an industrial area with lots of farming. This was my impression from looking at Google earth and their town website.
