Can anyone help me?? My husband and i are looking at a few area's to retire to in about 5 years. We are looking at Grand View area, mainly because of the weather, I love the warm dry weather, and health reasons need it. We don't mind the snow, as long as it does not stay for months on end. But mostly we hate the doom and gloom of the rain and clouds that the west side of the mts get 9 months out of the year. It can snow and be cold for all we care as long as the sun is shining and I have a real growing season in the summer, and it is warm. The second most important thing is recreation, we are hoping to have something to do year round, ex: fishing, boating, Gardening, motorcycles, four wheelers.
We really like the Colville wa area, but the draw back is it is so far away from anyother state. Would take you a whole day to get anywhere, on Motorcycles.
So Grand View is just one of the area's that we thought might meet our needs, Can anyone tell us what the weather is like, and the wind, what about the town itself, stores? if any. I can't find too much of anything on the town, and i have not found any pictures of the place. I hear quite a bit about Mountain Home. But we would prefer not to be in a large city. We love that small town feeling.
Would appreciate any feed back that you might have.
Thank you, Lisa in Longview

This was posted awhile ago so I am not sure if you have made a decision but I thought I would give you a little info on the town. I lived there for many years and still have family in the area.
They have a wonderfull senior center. I would go play cards with my grandmother as well as special dinners and fund raisers. New comers are always very welcome and the town is small enough that it doesn't take long to get to know everyone.
With the snake river right there as well as the CJ Stike Dam there is always an opportunity to fish. You can catch everything from sturgin to trout and the weather is definetly dry and very warm. Make sure your new home has AC lol.
There really isn't a lot for younger kids and adults to do which leads to a few downsides to the town. Namely, drugs and alcohol. Drugs are VERY popular with the younger crowd and there are as many, if not more, bars than grocery stores. You will need to get your gas in Mountain Home due to the fact that the only gas station has the worse gas I have ever put in my car. Everytime I use the gas from the gas station there I end up replacing a fuel pump or praying my vehicle will not putt out on me.
However, if you are all done raising your kids and are looking for a nice quiet place to live with a lot of good fishin and a nice older community Grand View and Bruneau are nice places to live.
Hope this helped
