We're not living on the river full time any more...which is weird to say after almost 15 years there, but we were back today and the spring peepers are peeping madly.
They might have been peeing while we weren't there but I choose to believe that this is Peeper Day, 2016.

Spring is here!

It sure was good to hear them yesterday. I feel like I've missed the signs that we used to live by. Will for sure miss the grouse drumming every time I walk out the door this spring. But we'll be out there more and more. Boat goes in the water next month and the marina up at the lake already has the awnings over the slips. I can't wait. There's no place in the world like Priest Lake for me.

On the other hand, we are really loving living in Spokane too. The South Hill is so convenient but close to everything and Spokane is such a pleasant home-town kind of city. I feel like we have the best of both worlds and my grandson is a big part of that. He'll be a year in June and incidentally, with me, my daughter and grandson, we now have three generations of red hair in the family. Life is good.

Nice post and Happy Peeper Day! I'm guessing you moved to Spokane to be near family?

Yes, our oldest daughter and her husband have our first grandson and our place here is three minutes from him. Youngest daughter is a junior in college and while we absolutely loved our adventure of building our home and little farm/ranch on the river, living off grid for years, etc....when the birds had flown the nest and the animals had grown old and passed or were sold, we were lonely so far out. So we first went to Anacortes where we kept our tugboat and hung out there for a while but ultimately decided to relocate to Spokane to be closer.
We will always have the cabin on the river but it's becoming a weekend or summer cabin now. Bittersweet but the right move.

Sounds like it was a grand adventure! Nice that you had the guts to do it in the first place and now happy memories.
