We have been invaded by flying beetles around Blanchard. Does anyone know what they are, if they are a problem, if they come back every year - etc.?

Do we need to take action to fumigate our attic area?

We've been seeing them here in Sagle also. We've only had a few get in the house though, I suspect coming in when we had a door open.

I think they are commonly known as assassin bugs around here, and are apparently pretty common. Here's a link to a Wiki on Triatominae.

They typically swarm this time of year. I hate them almost as much as I hate the ladybugs that seem to think that inside my house is a great place to congregate.

This is their time of year to be active. And if you live in a log home, they love laying their eggs in the cracks and splits. Just goes with the territory.

How long to they stick around? Is it like a couple weeks then they go away?

Once we get a couple of hard freezes they'll go away.

I believe what you all are dealing with is an imported Stink Bug. Really invasive in the Mid Atlantic Region.

They kinda smell like cilantro.

We fill a container with soapy water and hold it underneath of the bug and they just drop in. You can try vacuuming them but that will be very smelly. If they get into your house they'll hide behind pictures on the wall. Crazy, annoying lil buggers.

What we have here in northern Idaho are "Western Conifer Seed Bugs". Not real stink bugs but bad enough.

Yuck. Worst thing about fall.

Our builder told us our cabin had been invaded by them in the fall last year because a temporary panel covering one of the doorways had shrunk. He swept them out before we arrived in June, but we still found dead bugs in corners. This fall we will hopefully have all doors installed!
