I can't imagine a single reason why someone would uproot their family and move across the country to...Lewiston, ID.

Default Disappointed

I hope the ignorance expressed by some of these responses isn't indicative of the people in Idaho. No, I don't expect other people to raise my children. However, there is no avoiding the influences of a community on one's family. No doubt the people of whatever town we choose to call home will play a crucial if not an unconscious roll in shaping my children.

Hopefully my trip out there will reveal more helpful insight than the peanut gallery who showed up to slam my post.

To the few who offered reasonable comments, thanks. Hopefully your a better representative of the local culture.

So where would you live? Would you do it for Pullman? Perhaps you've never had to move for a job opportunity. Pullman is in our list but the commute seems tough. Are there many folks commuting from Pullman for work? Moscow seems a bit faster with similar amenities.

I see you chose Moscow. I've certainly seen that trend. We'll be making the drive up to test the commute during our visit. The Palouse region looks beautiful online. I hear the summers are awesome too.

Genessee is definitely of interest. Do you know anything about the school system and why is ranks so highly? I've found virtually nothing about the town online.

Or, I guess you could go to Lewiston and stand outside one of the stores, or maybe a park, and ask strangers if they would like to raise your kids for you. Maybe they will be happy to. Maybe they will think you are responsible for your own children and your children's behavior. Never know until you do a survey.
so there is a widely known phrase 'it takes a village to raise a child.' It referrs to the impact and necessity of a community whilst raising children. Neighbors, friends, teachers.. etc. [mod cut]

"It take a village to raise a child" is a phrase originally from Africa, but has become associated with a certain political philosophy, one that is contrary to the majority of Idaho residents. Even if it holds elements of truth, its colloquial meaning infers outside governmental influence on local politics; and in an area with strong libertarian leanings. The only thing you did "wrong" is use a phrase that a lot of people detest.

[mod note] No more snarky comments . . . from anyone! [/mod note]

Spring and summer are awesome. Fall and winter can be a bit dreary. I like it.
