Give ex-Californians a break, please! We should be judged as individuals, not as merely "crazy Californians".
Great post Sandy. I swear there are more stereotypes for California than any other state. Yes, it is a big state and yes, there are a lot of people there, more so than any other state. I've known a lot of Californians and they are as normal as anyone else in the rest of the country.

What makes no sense to me is this notion that Californians are invading my area. The people moving into your area are not just Californians. They may even be transplanted New Yorkers who happened to stop over in California. That does not make them Californians necessarily.

Besides, if you think about it... If you really think people in California are nuts, you would think all the nuts would stay there with their own kind, and all the normal people would move out.

I think people are simply complaining about the urbanization of their small communities, the rapid influx of new people, and the increase in taxes and real estate that they blame on "outsiders"--and they blame it all on Californians. But this does not mean that these non-natives are causing all the problems anyway. You just happen to live in a desirable area. If you don't want things to change, move to Pennsylvania or somewhere that isn't growing. Sorry, but you can't keep your beautiful area a secret for long!!!

Read it again...

Just trying to add some perspective...

I did read it again and I disagree that I took anything out of context.

Seemed to me he was OK with one stereotype while denouncing another, maybe it was worded poorly but I was trying to say stereotypes are mostly useless.

I feel the very same way. I miss those qualities that we used to have here in CA, but like many who live here, I am looking to leave, leave my friends and my family, my roots, my very good job, to find a better life, for living in CA is no longer a good fit for me. Much that I love here is changing and warping and quite frankly, I refuse to warp with it. I'm moving back to Idaho, to a state where I once lived. I am scared but I am still going because I have to be true to myself and my needs as a person. I am of modest means and I know if I stay in CA I'll never be able to afford to buy a house and if I did I would be shackled to the mortgage payment each month. I refuse to live in bondage... I require freedoms, views that are untarnished by a million homes, open spaces, less people, untainted mountains, streams, and rivers. It's used to be here in CA too but now it is hard to see through all the people and growth. I'm outta here! Idaho or Bust

Guess I didn't read back far enough. Anyway... I maintain that he/she didn't mean to make every Californian out to be a wacko. There are plenty of them there though. It's unfortunate that our country's morals seem to be coming from movies and television and we all know where that morality comes from. It's no wonder there is backlash...

I'm fairly conservative so I can see this poster's points, but it doesn't help that he makes every conservative out to be a radical--thus furthering THAT stereotype. Sheesh Glad... Take it easy... Express your views but tone it down a bit!

Amen to that. YOU have just hit the nail on the head.

Default Welcome???

Not quite...why do you think they're leaving CA???? They allowed it to happen there and are allowing it to happen here. They have no morals and they are as liberal as they get. They'll bring the crime, house price increases, malls, coffee shops, beautiques and all their other creature comforts, squeezing out native populations (Idahoans). They couldnt handle their state, now they want to infect another. They have no sense of community or anything else for that matter. Why should you sypathize...perhaps your one of them?

RELAX! a little. Not all People coming from California or anywhere else are from their last destination, nor do most bring any frightening things with them. This is a country where, for many reasons, people relocate often. I was born in Wa. grew up in Wa, Ore, Idaho, Montana and moved to
Calif. for 16 years when my husbands work moved us there. I am now back in Wa. would you hate me because I came from California. We may have been one of the people who helped over populate Ca. for awhile. We are not alone. Change is hard for everyone on both sides of the coin. Be open minded, share what you have to share and listen to your new neighbors. Just because they say it's not like it was in California doesn't mean they want it to change, they are just commenting on how it was different. Everyone has to give one another time to adjust, there is always comfort in what you are used to. But learning new ways and experiences can be good for both sides, not all bad. Just my 2cents

Now hold on there, partner. We Californians didn't "allow" anything happen any more than you "allow" things to happen in your state. It is exactly because we HAVE morals, and are NOT liberal that we want out.

I was in Coeur d'Alene just last weekend. I cannot believe that they "allowed" Hagadone to build that monstrosity on Lake Coeur d'Alene. The lake is gorgeous, but what dominates every bit of natural beauty is the towering resort. Did Californians do that to you? How was that "allowed" to happen? Now he's building a set of high-rise condos, right on the lake. These are going for a minimum of a mil each. Again, the building is an utter monstrosity. Did Californians do that to you too? No. The Idahoans themselves allowed this. Should you personally be blamed and castigated, just because you are also an Idahoan?

I am a total conservative, and my family would be an asset to any neighborhood. We are helpful, kind, we take care of our property, and we have HIGH morals. So before you lump all of us into the cess-pool of Los Angeles or San Fransisco, get your head on straight.

WELL SAID! Kukla1, I don't know why people think all people in California are from L.A. and behave like the Hollywood Wild set. don't they know where a large part of their food is grown. People look at a map, California is far more rural than most people realize.

The"consevative" vs "liberal " labels just make me sick. Would our liberal Idaho family not be an asset to any neighborhood? God forbid our tree-hugging children might be mauling on some of your plantings. Maybe they might even steal your mail, oh no, wait, that is the conservative LDS. Please, keep your stereotypes elsewhere and stay out of Idaho.
