You wouldn't be able to get a custom plate in the same day no. They don't have prisoners in the back room making them lol. But yes, you can, and I did, get your new Idaho plates at the same time you pay for them. I got mine just as soon as I could after I moved here in 81'.

For those who still think the CA influx doesn't have an effect on housing prices:

Scroll to the second paragraph on Idaho Falls. It's merely a short quip about the CA influx, but it is on a major media source on real estate, and they just don't put anything in there that isn't justifiable.

Again (as always), this isn't a comment on the CA influx, or a judgment, or anything else - just some substantiation on the effect of CA influx on housing prices.

Bottom line - it's real.

We all deal with influxes. California may have seen more than any other State aside from NY or FL. and yes, these influxes caused our housing prices to go up too. You are not alone. There are just too many people.

I think what needs to happen to keep housing prices "Real" in Idaho, is for folks from other states like CA to be smarter about buying. Don't get into bidding wars over property, just because you have a bunch of equity in your CA home. Don't let your emotions dictate buying a property (I have that problem to some degree).
I am going to make an offer on a property in Moyie Springs (maybe). I am not going to pay more than it is worth. I am also going to have to finance it and make monthly payments, and not pay cash for it. So believe me I don't want high prices in Idaho either.

Carl is right, the influx we have experienced here is our downfall. I'm not going to get into it, but it has to do with illegal immigration for the most part. The other problem "was" the banks lending $$$ to said people who shouldn't have qualified in the first place

But what is happening there is the same as what is happening here, of sorts*. You have a mass number of people moving into an area with limited space, you create a higher demand, and property values increase accordingly. This isn't so obvious in a stagnant market like we're in now, but if you'd have been in Idaho 2-5 years ago you'd have witnessed it almost everywhere.

*The obvious difference between the two is that a) it is happening in Idaho on a smaller scale, b) with legal citizens of the US, and c) typically with higher incomes.

There are two types of Californians who move to Idaho. The first type, are those who want to blend in and become Idahoans. The second type are those who want to bring all their sprawling, consuming mindsets into the State. Unfotunately, Idaho gets both.

Thats funny because we have two kinds of immigrants that come to California. Those that want to become Americans and contribute to society and those that come for hand outs, ruin our schools, close our Hospitals, kill each other and us sometimes while craming 3-4 families into 1600 sq ft house thus turning neighborhoods into slums with homes costing a half a mill and up. Not to mention the constant flow of people from all over the country that come here and change things.
Unfortunately, California gets them all.

I say bring on the Californians!!!! Having bought a house before the recent boom I must say that I am very happy to have the housing market go up! On the news it says that while the housing market in other states has dropped, Idaho's housing has soared. Hopefully when we finally find out if we are moving the market will still be up and I can find the home of my dreams across the state in Boise.

I lived in Las vegas for 11 yrs before meeting my hubby and moving to Idaho. Yes he is born raised in Idaho. I had to deal with the Ca. people all the time. They were not very nice people as a whole and drove awful. They pushed up the housing market making it hard for first time home buyers. They are doing the same here. I lived in Eagle for the last 5 years and I have to say that most of my neighbors were from Ca. They were snotty, rude, I am better than you, road rage etc etc etc. people. Their children are no better most have no respect for adults let alone for themselves. They wonder why we don't want them to move here.
If they would move here and try to blend that is fine but they don't want that well most of them I should say. That is where the problem is.
