Actually, it was 1971 !
Here's a link to a video of the Original song called: Indian Reservation (Cherokee People) by Paul Revere and the Raiders
MySpaceTV Videos: Indian Reservation (Cherokee People) - The Raiders by David
The lyrics are:
Indian Reservation
Words and Music by John D. Loudermilk
performed by Paul Revere and the Raiders
They took the whole Cherokee nation
Put us on this reservation
Took away our ways of life
The tomahawk and the bow and knife
Took away our native tongue
And taught their English to our young
And all the beads we made by hand
Are nowadays made in Japan
Cherokee people, Cherokee tribe
So proud to live, so proud to die
They took the whole Indian nation
Locked us on this reservation
Though I wear a shirt and tie
I’m still part redman deep inside
Cherokee people, Cherokee tribe
So proud to live, so proud to die
But maybe someday when they learn
Cherokee nation will return, will return, will return, will return,
will return
****************
time warp!!

Not only greed... selfishness. I have heard from many that now, in our once laid back, and humble community, there is no sense of community anymore. Even if you extend the warmth out to the "new arrivals" your greeting is met with a stern look, and I might add, concern. A sort of why are they approaching me. I guess the defenses are up because of the backlash from ID to CA but from what the track record is, rightly so. Numerous "homeowners" (I know a few) are using their properties as investments INSTEAD of homes. The personalized neighborhoods we once had are, to put it politely, milled down into ghetto housing because of steep rental costs, and landlords who live, among other places, CA and abroad. We may be just lil hometown people but to be taken advantage of in our own backyard, truly does say something about 'who is stepping over the fence to smell the flowers'. I only hope that those that make this area part of their "investment" take a gander around,a nd in doing so, see the light and make it their home. Maybe then they won't get such a distancing responce as to whether anyone likes/dislikes CA's that ... are taking over... May as well place a stmp on the land when purchased that says "MADE in TAIWAN"... That's how distant it is making the area because of not having an actual homeowner, and leaving the ones that do own homes, around such properties, to watch for themselves... The ratio... 5 actual homeowners-5 rental properties thus far... I'm sure I will think of more, but at this time I have to go babysit the new arrivals...

Unfortuntely it's not just "Californians" but anyone CHOOSING to leave chaos, high prices, crime, stressful materialistic living, and the convenience of supermart just down the street that come here and start bitching about how inconvenient it is to drive an hour for shopping, taxes are low so we have to drive 1 mile to drop off our garbage etc. Just when you move to ID or anywhere away from Ca DON'T CHANGE THINGS !! without considering the end result.

Calif to Idaho
Moved to Sandpoint back in 78. Thought it was going to be great .
NO so...Some of the folks were pleasant, but, most were down right nasty.
Change those plates to Idaho quick.
They really resented anyone from California moving to "their" land. I loved to fish and hunt and well never ask where the "huckleberries are"....let alone brag about finding a secret patch....it was ok after a couple years if you didn't take a job that they thought "belonged" to them or theirs. I was out of work a lot and had to scramble to do about anything to survive for me and family.
Fast forward to today. I have since moved on and returned to Post Falls a couple years ago and now in New Mexico.
Post Falls, Sandpoint, Cda are ALL crowded and growing quickly. I do not know the stats, but, I would bet their are a LOT of Californians up there. Also many from Minn, etc.
Now in New Mexico there is still somewhat of an attitude in the small area we are building, but most folks are nice and helpful. I would offer out that anyone wanted to get out of Calif. look to NM. Land prices in some areas are still very good. Jobs, well that is tough unless you are in one of the larger cities.
See the NM board..
Happy Trails,
HW

Here's an article from Yahoo Finance that sums up the problem quite nicely. I didn't realize there was a name for it. It's called "rural gentrification". The article describes the problems being encountered by Valley County residents, among other areas, when their long time rural home is invaded by rich outsiders. At least McCall is fighting back somewhat by passing laws prohibiting gated communities, high rise buildings on the lakeshore, etc.

The only way to slow it down is to tax the sh-t out of non-resident/non-rental property, especially if your primary residence is out of state.
Honestly I can't figure out why that hasn't happened.

Why shame on you?
It only makes sense. And once that's in place we can get to addressing our current property tax system, and maybe bring in a little Prop 13 relief for existing (and longtime) homeowners.
