I will gracefully leave instead of gracefully accepting it.That seems like a wise thing to do. Gracefully leaving is great way of taking care of yourself. It is far more positive and pro-active than looking for someone to blame for a situation that's not to your liking. IMO, it's far better than getting upset and making yourself unhappy about something you have little or no control over. It is sad to see one's hometown deteriorate so much that the seemingly best option is to move elsewhere and start over. I've chosen to do just that on several occassions. I chose not to fight the changes. Those caught up in the blame game are in the same boat, though they would never admit it. It's far easier to blame someone else than it is to be pro-active and do whatever you need to do to be happy. Playing the blame game is tricky becasue the anger it arouses makes you feel like you're doing something to change things, when in fact you're just wasting energy. I admire your courage to move on. I hope you find your personal paradise in Missouri. ![]() |

I was born in raised in Northern California and I left for years, and just recently came back. I guess the grass isn't always greener on the other side. I too, wanted something better. I knew there was somewhere else with less crime, less expensive, slower paced, etc.. Well, I found it. And didn't like it. Never fit in. I lived in Iowa and Arizona. In both places I felt like I had to defend myself or apologize for being from California! I'm sorry, I didn't have a choice, I was born there. I'm not a rich real estate person trying to build on every square inch of their states, nor do I have an arrogant attitude, nor am I from Hollywood. It was getting pretty ridiculous. My boss in Arizona said, "You people from California are the very reason the houses around here aren't affordable anymore..." You people?? Was she serious?! Ha ha ha! Needless to say I got out of there as soon as I could. I know CA is ridiculously expensive and crowded. But I love it here. I guess you either fit in somewhere or you don't. So maybe all we're all really looking for is somewhere that's comfortable, somewhere that FEELS like home. Where ever that may be. My friend from CA is living in Boise, that's why I was in this forum to begin with. He likes it ok but says he won't stay there forever. As soon as his job is done, he's coming back to CA.

From the way people talk on here about Californians I wouldnt move there,I live in a suburb of Albuquerque and alot of Californians moved in in the past few years along with east coasters and they seem to be treated no different than anyone else here,we also have a new movie studio here that has relocated some Cali people and movie shoots around the city.If I was from Cali I would move to a state that is more accepting of everyone and that is more diverse.

I have been lurking and studying these forums for some time and got swept up in the Californian thing. I was born in Los Angeles 61 years ago, spent most of my first 30 years in Orange County and then in Big Bear Lake and since that I have lived in Arizona for the past 23 years. I am now heading for retirement and am looking for something "different". A new adventure, new people, new interests. Not better, just different. The Northwest is where I am looking, mainly Idaho, and I don't feel being from California or Arizona will make much difference in my life there as far as being accepted. I have traveled extensively and have found that wherever a person goes he or she is usually treated as he or she treats others. It was that way when I moved to AZ all those years ago and I expect it to be that way when I land in Idaho. People are diverse, but that's what makes us so interesting! Idaho will be a new and interesting change, my last adventure maybe, and I intend to learn all about the culture, the people who live there and the life it has to offer. New...different...but not better. "Better" is a very realtive term

It is very interesting to me...the "Us against Them" thing. It is prevelant everywhere, including AZ & CA. There are certainly some extremely interesting posters and opinions on these forum pages and I have answered most of my own questions just by reading along between the lines. Obviously Idahoans are proud of their state and they should be...it's beautiful there and so far the people I have met through my visits have been warm and friendly.
So, where should a single, retired lady (who may look into substitute teaching) who wants TREES and quiet look to settle? CdA? Post Falls? Hayden? Rathdrum? Spirit Lake, Athol? The mind boggles. |

How quiet do you want? Do you want an apartment, condo, small house? Do you have a budget for housing? CDA and Hayden are pricier. Do you want to be close to shopping? The whole area here is really one and the same, connected wise, other than SL and Athol.
