I'll definitely do more searches to see what I can find on homesteading in the Gem state.
See Syringaloid's, Banjomike's, and NWCrow's posts. I can't tell you much about real estate in SW/Central Idaho, being anchored in NID, but they can!

Sandpoint has a great Farmers' Market every Wednesday and Saturday throughout the summer.

Thanks, the Sandpoint area sounded like a place that made sense in the northern part of the state. I'll look up those guys you mentioned for info on our region.

Just a quick question have you considered Fairfield or places near there? Garden Valley is great area like you've stated it is a little pricey. Or what about Donnelly? Or Casecade? Northern Idaho Area you can look for places near Orifino? Just a few ideas that might help you open your search up. Each of these areas provides great soil for crops. If you are looking for farming animals each area has open grazing. These are maybe some different places that can meet your needs with 5+ acres and good soil. Hope this gives you more options.

Thanks, no I haven't looked into the Fairfield area yet. We'll check it out. Donnelly & Cascade made since location/distance to Boise, but I thought it would be a little more challenging with the elevation. However, not ruled out.
