Smile Melaleuca - I've had a great experience!

I have worked for Melaleuca for the past several years, and having worked all over Idaho Falls, I can tell you it is one of the best companies to work for by far and by my experience they have a GREAT career path! I started out on the phone lines and now supervise a small team.

They are very family oriented and have great benefits

* 401k matching

* Profit Sharing (with the company growing like it is, this one is a BIG perk!)

* Insurance

* Local Discounts (my family loves Garcias!)

* Summer Picnic – gave away a dozen or so big televisions, trips to Disney land, cruises, bicycles, trampolines, etc! Free inflatables for the kids, all the cotton candy, popcorn, and food you can eat – all free for the whole family! It is better than the state fare and you don’t have to pay a cent!

* Annual Christmas Party with stars like Cubby Checker, the Smothers Brothers, and more. Last year they had some comedian that had been on David Letterman (or something like that) He was the funniest clean comedian I’ve ever seen.
* The also give me a certificate for about $85.00 worth of Melaleuca products every month and about 40% discount on anything else I want to get.

* One of my favorite perks is the new fitness center they put in for their employees! It has free weights, treadmills, ellipticals, step aerobics classes, spinning classes, etc. It has been great at getting me “back in shape” (which I’ve needed to do for a while). The gym is right there at the office, so I’ll just go to they gym instead of lunch a couple of times a week – it cut on my calories and I feel great after. I would never find the time to get to the gym if they didn’t have this there. And it’s FREE too!

A few months ago I got a call from a guy named Cole who works in Mr. Vandersloot’s office, and they gave me and a few other folks in the department 2nd row tickets to a Utah Jazz game! It was the most incredible sporting event I’ve ever been to! And on the 2nd ROW!!!!!! I've since talked to several others who have gone too. I think it's kind of just a neat thing they do for their employees.

Plus, if you come to Idaho Falls, you’ll not want to miss the fireworks show Melaleuca puts on for the 4th of July. I moved here from one of the largest cities in the west, and the fireworks show that Melaleuca does for the city here is by far the best I’ve ever seen.

All the perks the company gives are great, but the thing that I love most is family nature they have. It is a fast-paced high-energy environment, but they care about their people too. I don’t want to get too personal, but there have been several times when my manager has made sure me and my family were taken care and accommodations were made at work for me so I could be home to take care of my children.

As for the types of jobs, they handle just about everything themselves. They have their own marketing department, manufacturing, sales, finance, etc. so I’m guessing you could find just about anything you’d want to do.

Politics: I’ve never seen heard about any politics being pushed. The mayor came by once to talk to the employees about city issues, but that is about it. The one thing I’ve seen the company does do in regards to politics, is they encourage everyone to vote when elections are up – and give everyone time off so they can vote for whatever they want to vote for.

Be aware if you are thinking about applying, though, they have a very high standard and it can be difficult to get a position. You have to be one of their best candidates to get a job there. I’ve had friends who were good (but not great) turned down. I think persistence is recognized though, as one finally got in after initially being told “no” when he continued to follow-up with the company over several weeks. I think it helps if you have some really good work references too.

Good Luck!

Alex,

Quite the detailed summary there. What about the dental plan, did you cover it? I've heard various things, but don't know for sure.

More importantly, I want to know how the internal politics work. Say for example a front line employee makes a suggestion of how to change the workflow, or alter something so it is easier for all. How are suggestions like those received by management, in your experience?

And, if a suggestion is implimented, what is the turn around time for that? Is it something that is discussed for months, or something put into place as soon as possible?

I'm just curious given some specific feedback I heard.

The other thing is I can't reference my source, as some at Melaleuca seem to have a fear of loosing their jobs, if they voice their opinions too much.

What has been your experience?

Thanks for discussing more than just the "selling points," of a company.

I still havent' heard anything on pay scale and or types of labor jobs available.
Does anyone have any experience of how the warehouse or shipping and receiving jobs work?
