Inkom
I have been noticing a lot of houses for sale in Inkom. Can anyone give me an idea of what it is like there. I know it is a very small town, population in the 700's.
My husband and I are looking at moving to Idaho from California (seems to be a common occurrence on this board). We're a fairly conservative family with a 2 year old son. We're bringing our own jobs and looking for a nice place to be able to settle down and raise our family. Is this a fairly friendly community? We're quiet people, but we would like to be able to make friends in the area we move to. Will this be hard in such a small town?
Any help you can provide will be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Inkom rules!!!
I grew up in McCammon, just 10 miles away and smaller than Inkom. but Pocatello is so close its a relief to be small. I just retired and moved back from CA, and couldn't wait to be home again. My husband who is a Napa CA native fought the move for all of two months, then came up for a visit and within three days was packing the rest of his stuff to move up here with me. We moved over to American Falls, but that was because of the river and the reservoir-gotta love that water sports!!The schools here are great, and I'm sure Inkom is too. I will say that Inkom gets more snow than AF but it is closer to the Mountains by 40 miles and up here that's a whole new microcosim of weather..we get WIND I mean WIIIIIINNNNDDDD! its pretty cool actually, makes for hanging my laundry on the line pretty cost saving, hee hee

inkom
we are from ca too and i have been all thruout inkom
im sure you like it for the same reason we do ,,it is close to pocatello and you get a lot of house and land for your money in inkom ,,, there is no town really a small store and a couple of other small businesses post office etc. it is preety darn cold there colder than pocatello ,,, ski resort looks nice ,,(but very small)
we talked with a few neighbors of a house we looked at and they were very friendly , right off they asked us if we were mormon ,, we are not and they were not either but it sounds like everyone else is there! ,dont get me wrong being mormon is great and the mormon church is one of the reasons se idaho is a great place to live with low crime good values etc ,,, but i have been told that they will not talk to you if you do not want to convert ,, i hope im wrong about this but this is what i have been told by calif mormon friends we have,
but they told me if you never burn the bridge that you might someday convert you will do better making friends !haha
school is tough if you have kids too ,, the middle and high school (marsh valley)is very far maybe 30miles,,, but it is really scenic wonderful country with lots of wildlife running around ,horse farms very green with trees mountains etc ,,,really nice country
also inkom has NO ,,I repeat NO internet service other than dialup ,,, you might be able to get satellite internet depending where you are , but it is expensive!
so if you are mormon, like snow, with no kids, like a quiet country atmosphere ,and do not spend much time on your computer it is perfect!
anything less be prepared to adapt a little! hope this helps!

Thanks for the info. The internet access is actually a huge thing for us, as I work online. That will definitely be a big consideration. As for the rest, we do have a son, but will be homeschooling, so the schools aren't a big issue. As for the rest, I guess we'll just check it out, it might be too far in the country, my husband wants to live no more than 15 minutes from at least a little town, so if there aren't really any businesses that might be an issue for him.
Know anything about Rexburg?

Rexburg is home to BYU-Idaho. They do have high speed there and as of right now the city is having financial issues and are applying for aid as it's growing a tad faster than can be handled by the budget.
If it matters, there are a higher concentration of Mormons there than in the Pocatello area, then again most of SE Idaho is home to many Mormons.
Rexburg is large enough to have a few big box stores and locally owned businesses as well. You'd be about an hour from the closest mall and finer dining which is in Idaho Falls.
