Property Taxes?
Can someone give me some info on property taxes in Idaho?
I hear that they are supposedly cheap, yet I looked at some real estate sites and the taxes listed are just about as high as here in PA and we are known to have some of the highest in the US!
What would property taxes be like on a $200,000 home?

I can only tell you about Coeur d Alene, not sure about rest of state but should be close to same. We have a homeowners exception, state wide, which takes 75K of value so if you live in the home a 200K home would be, or should be, about $1100-1200 a year. If it was a rental or 2nd home it would be about $1600.

Boise is high, we have seen a bit of a break this year with a switch in school funding and an increase in sales tax. If you search for Ada county assessor's office online, it is all avialbale, I will see what I can find for houses valued at $200,000.

I think Boise would be closer to $2000 but it really depends on what the home is valued by the assessor. It is supposed to be at fair market value, but values seem to still be catching up in the vallry

I was just cruising a realty site and looking at the homes in SE Idaho. They estimate about $1200 for a $200,00 home.

Now that to me is cheap. I'm looking at the Idaho Falls area, possibly Coere d' alene area, but I think that's a bit isolated for my tastes.
What does the future of taxes there look like? Is there currently a strong push to raise them?
I saw some homes in ID Falls at around 200k with taxes of like 3k. Are there seperate school taxes/municipal taxes or are they together?

Ha! Good question. I also noticed some home around the same sale price varied when it came to the taxes by almost $400. I have clients who come into work that are realtors and as soon as the chance arises I'll see if I can find out.
If not, then I have an idea I can research, as I do know that the taxes are different city vs. county even though they are all assessed by the county It certainly has my curiosity as I'm not certain if it's due to the size of the lot or just what.

I think a big variation lies in the fact that a home's assessed value(as per the tax assessor) is obviously not the same as a listing price on a home for sale. Also as was mentioned, if the home is not owner inhabited, taxes will be more as the $75,000 homestead exemption would not be in place.

good point, ALWAYS consider what the taxes will be, based on what you pay for the joint. (times the mil levy)
Local Schools and fire protection can really rachet the mil levy. It seems the 'essential services' are being pushed onto 'temporary' levies / bonds, thus, the taxpayer gets held 'hostage' when a levy fails... "You will lose your schools, police, fire, ambulance, Library,,,Blah Blah..." Too bad, we stand to lose alot more than that (like voter control)

Property taxes in Lewiston depends on the area of town. I would say on average taxes for a home of that price ranges between $2000 and $2500 a year. There are a lot of surrounding areas that are more rural with smaller tax bills.
