I love Idaho and especially Boise. What a great city!
I know I'm judging things here too quickly, give me a few months and perhaps I'll feel more at home. I guess I think if I'd moved to a larger town in the Boise area that more people would equal more differences among them and more openess. However, I take heart in that I've seen a couple of boys in downtown Emmett with very long hair, so perhaps the culture will change with their hairstyles

I haven't been in San Diego in a long time and don't know too much about the county but it's good to hear you love ID and Boise, I think SD is beautiful and has the best climate in the US so it's quite a pat on the back for ID that you're happy there. I've only visited Boise for a week and it seemed pretty laid back and tolerant to me, hopefully I'll be proven right in the long term.

It wasn't too long ago that saying the phrase "thinking about moving...Emmett, ID" would have gotten you laughed out of the room, hauled out by the cops, or checked in for treatment.

Emmett sucks
I am currently a teenager living in Emmett and I absolutely hate it. The cops and the court system here is absolutely corrupt. The school system is very poor and is causing property taxes to rise because they are so dumb they got the school $900,000 in debt! There are horrible teachers and they are cutting back classes at a rapid pace. The school leaks from the ceiling and has mold so where has all the money gone. Someone is obviously pocketing it. City hall has already been caught stealing money and no one has done anything about it. The climate here is horrible, it is either freezing cold or burning up. There is a severe mosquito problem that makes life in the summer miserable. The majority of the people in this town are cranky senior citizens. There are no recreational activities for people of any age except bingo night at the senior citizen center. The people here are extremely racist, I cant even count the times I have heard the n word used in school by my classmates. Emmett is a little speed trap cops love writing tickets in this town so be careful. There are an abundance of registered sex offenders in this town. The people here don't even take the time to get to know new people they hate them because of nothing. To top it all off there are no places to eat and the only grocery store in town charges absurd prices. I have had to live in this hell hole for six years and I have hated it every day. I am counting the days until I move away to college. I have nothing good to say about this horrible town I am moving away and never coming back!

Well Haterade had his say about emmett and I have to take it with a grain of salt .
There must be some kids who have a different opinion.
Emmett schools are rated the same as our home town schools and every school even new ones have some mechanical problems.
Are there any other students there who care to add a positive emmett experience to this forum??
We will be up next month to check out the town and the Cherry festival.
I like the sound of Emmett as our new home.
As for the extream weather, the only place where the weather is perfect you can't afford to live.
Here in central Calif it's either 106 degree or so cold that the fog freezes to your windshield.
Maybe Emmett isn't all that bad ??

Wrong as Wrong can be
Desert Ryder I guess you are going to have to learn the hard way about Emmett that is fine with me. You are absolutely 100% wrong about the Emmett schools. You say some mechanical errors! The school is a big dome that is full of styrofoam. There is large rips in the outer covering where the weather has caused severe damage. The roof leaks and there is a severe staff infection virus that has been found all over the school especially in the weight room. For gods sake the school is built on swamp land. Does that sound like minor mechanical errors to you? They don't even have enough money to buy paper. The teacher's are completely under qualified for the job and the administration is even worse. The school is having to cut many classes, even ones required for some colleges! The high school has the LARGEST teen pregnancy rate in the area and one of the largest drop out rates. The Cherry Festival is a joke they have the exact same rides every single year for the past six years I have lived here. I also disagree with you that you cannot afford to live in a place with comfortable weather. I have found numerous towns with pleasant climates in Washington, Oregon, and California that I can afford to live in as a college student. As someone that hasn't even experienced this town at all I think that you are making statements that you cannot back up with facts. I really do hope you enjoy living in this town I'm sure someone like you would enjoy it.

Methinks the lady (or gentleman) doth protest too much .
The anger and hatred spewed by a disgruntled student should not dissuade you from moving anywhere. You can go to any school system in the nation (perhaps the world) and find kids who will hate and bad-mouth it...usually because they had a bad experience due to their own problems. Not saying there is not some truth to the angry post...but my guess is the school system is as good as any and you will find contentment if your attiutude is as good as it seems to be

Esselcue.
Thank you for your thoughts..
I can understand the school has it's problems. I can also understand why the young man is bitter enough to post such things. He's just a kid.
We teach our children that life is also full of problems and an THE important lesson in life is to make the best of what you get. Being filled with negative thoughts and hate won't make things better. Having the ability to recognize that makes for a long and happy life.
I like the thought of my kids realizing how good they have it compared to the rest of the world. Just because their school has issues doesn't mean to give up on it . Every school needs something.
Would I give up the thought of moving to Emmett because the school has mold or staph, and some young kid bad mouths the place hell no.
Yes Hateraid someone like me would enjoy Emmett. I actually have worked my entire life so I could move to a place like Emmett and call it home.
I would offer my time and money and 49 years of experience to help repair the school. That is what you do for a community you call home.
Hateraid, you get to college and study well. Then get a job and work for the next 45 years. Then think back on your time in Emmett and you might actually get a small smile on your face and realize it wasn't that bad.
As for the Cherry festival, There are rides at the Cherry festival ???
I thought it was just pie's. My kids are going to luv it

About that Cherry Festival.... there were no cherries to be seen when we went about three years ago. There were 2 stands that had slices of cherry pie, but that was it. I have to say I was kinda disappointed. How do you call it a Cherry Festival and not have any cherries? I was hoping for some real good homemade pies- but not a chance. Just my 2 cents.

To my knowledge the school is structurally sound yes it is odd looking but very nice inside. There are 3 ele schools and 1 each of middle and high. There is talk of building a new hs but we will see.
All schools need bonds passed for this and that.
I have found the people to be kind and helpful. Yes I am white but I look like a foreign nationality.
There is allot of community pride here and they really support the kids sports. Which I think is wonderful!

Thinking about moving to Emmett
Currently living in Tooele (twoella) Utah........Don't care for it much...
Small town, but growing I have a teenage daughter and there is a lot of gang activity here...........would like to get her out of this area because of it. Not my ideal place to raise children. My parents live there and have been to visit them but want to know more about the area, gang activity is one that is high on my list and cost of living.
