In talking to Childrens Mental Health I believe that making this move will be a positive thing for Zoe. She can still receive all the services there that she does here, we just might have to drive to get there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now to sell this house and move. We will be in Kamiah the 15 and 16th to research and "snoop" We are getting pretty excited about this!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sunshine |

sunshine,
Not trying to discourage you did you talk to the mental illness help here in Idaho or were your from. I know a couple of people were I live, I live about 2 hrs. from Kamiah, they have special needs children they find it very hard to get any help. If your not getting your info. from Idaho then, if I were you I would ask here first. If that is your main concern moving in the area. You can also,go to Clearwater real estate and find real estate info. Clearwater is the county for Kamiah. Property seems to be still reasonable up there. |

I live in Kamiah and I can't remember the last time we had a foot of snow, let alone two or three feet. Orofino is about 30 minutes away and Lewiston is an hour and a half. As far as mental health issues, I believe that Lewiston is well equipped to handle them...I have a son who has mental health issues. As far as the high school goes I love it. My last son was on a fast track nowhere when we returned to Kamiah. He was a junior in high school and had many problems in his previous school. He graduated in 2005 and is now in the Navy and I credit many of the teachers, aides, and administrative employees with his success. It is sometimes hard to be an involved parent in some systems but I had no problems here. Yes, there are drugs here.....they are everywhere and if anyone thinks they can find a town without them, they need to pull their heads out of the sand. Jobs are an issue, along with wages. I returned here to be close to my grandchildren and took a serious paycut to do so, but hey, they are worth it. Well, I guess this is enough for now....if you haven't guessed.....I LOVE IDAHO

Both my wife and I fell in love with Kamiah 3yrs. ago. So last yr. we bought a home just outside of town on ten acers.
We began remodeling the home in Jan. and we have met some of the nicest honest people you could have ever meet. Moderator cut: realtor info It's a great place with great people! ![]() Last edited by markablue; 01-11-2007 at 02:44 AM. |

I just happened to stumble on this site yesterday, it is very interesting and fun. I have found some interesting posts about peoples perceptions of Idaho. Some of us in Idaho, myself included, are about as "hillbilly" as they come but I do think we are friendly and honest and we welcome newcomers for the most part. Just as some people here are rude, there are people who come here who are just as rude. I think that we as humans just need to try to be a little nicer, no matter where we are from. As far as the snow goes, you don't have to go far from Kamiah to find plenty, maybe that is what they were referring to.

Kamiah gets slightly above the national average when it comes to snowfall..October to April-May..Lewiston hardly gets any snow..Maybe some in Jan or Feb, but it melts quickly...Orofino is between Kamiah and Lewiston, and has a hospital.. I'm not sure of the facilities in Kamiah. Sunshine..I sent you a personal message....

Kamiah is a great place to raise kids. My Mom grew up there and we recently (couple of years ago) bought 15+ acres there. It's 62 miles from Lewiston and 22 from Orofino. Orofino has a small 'Hospital', but if you need serious facilities, I would look closely at Lewiston / Clarkston area. Clarkston has no income tax, BTW. Orofino gets about 27 inches of precip/year and Kamiah gets ~17 inches. How wet do you like it versus how green do you want it! Kamiah has a more open feel to it where Orofino is more canyon (less land available). The is also Stites, Kooskia, etc. just farther down hwy 12... KTM
