Default Small Town

Have you made a trip to Kamiah? It is beautiful and small.I have heard the schools are nice. We were looking up in that area and only live a few hours away and my kids didn't want anything to do with it because it was so small and not much for kids unless you have grown up and no nothing else is out there. I believe high school would be tough not of who she is, its just if she is use too a social life she might find it difficult.
Not sure how big of a town you are looking for Lewiston and Moscow are not far from Kamiah maybe 2-2 1/2 hours away. There is much more in those towns. One thing about Idaho small towns always visit before you decide and talk to the locals and store owners that is of great help. Good Luck!!

I have heard from a couple of people that there is starting to be a lot more durgs and crime in that little area. That is something that you should look into yourself.. What kind of activities is your daughter into? Maybe I can help you find an area that you can all enjoy...

Default Can you really get away?

Most small towns every where have drug problems. You will find Idaho is no different then California or any other state in our drug problem. Meth seems to be the drug of choice in most towns now. When I go up there you don't see any evidence of drugs but, like most small towns they do stay hidden.
Where I live you wouldn't think it was here either people drive through and think what a peaceful, beautiful little town and right behind the businesses is a trailer park and it is full of drug addicts and alcoholics. The locals know they are there but, it hasn't stopped people from coming.
When we were looking for property up there the real estate people seemed to let us know how the town conducted itself. The town seems to be more retirement and with all the ex-law enforcement retires that seems to be moving into the area maybe the druggies will find its not the place to be.

Default Lenore

Hi HotIdahoProperties,
We are looking for land up by Orofino in the small town of Lenore. Someone told us awhile back that snakes to tend to be on the river side of that area and not on the other side like by Peck. Do you know anything about this?
Also, does Lenore have any issues to keep in mind? Thanks

Zoe is actually looking forward to a small town. We adopted this grandchild of ours last year, and she is very much against drugs. She does not care for a social life, preferring to play with the gameboy and watching TV.
So I think the small town is what we are looking for.......we are just worried that she might have a hard time fitting in.

Smile Small Towns can be nice

sunshine101,
Then you might like Kamiah. It's hard to say if a child will fit in you know sometimes it just takes a while and then again, she might hook up with a good friend. I believe there is native American kids in that area.
You know one thing I like to do when considering a town is to get the newspaper that gives you an idea of the area. We also try to stay in the town for a few days to see how the people are. Kamiah is very remote. The closet town would be Orofino and I believe that is about 45 min and theres really nothing there for shopping except for groceries. Lewiston is the next city.
If your daughter is not looking for the town to entertain her because, I don't think there is much for kids to do then, she should do fine. They do have a great motocross track and that is fun to go to in the summer. If you like remote and the outdoors you might like Kamiah. There is also,a small town called Grangeville look that up.

Default from Sunshine 101

because of her past, Zoe is pretty much a loaner, playing videos games, computer games and watching Direct TV. She does go to the Boys and Girls club, but there are no real friends or relationships that have developed....... She gets along very well with the staff, as she does with her teachers. She is a type 1 diabetic and we are looking into medical facilities for that, as well as for her mental illness. She believe an we all do that the slower pace living and smaller town will help a great deal, as well as putting distance between her Mom and Dad.
She LOVES fishing and water sports.
What is the snowfall in Kamiah???????

we really are interested in Kamiah we have a 5th wheel and COULD live in that until we find something permanent. A house, at least 3 bedrooms and maybe an acre or two. we have 2 labs that would love to have the running room. Dan would love a shop..... and we need a garage. In adopting our granddaughter, I have a foster licence and might be interested in being a foster parent in Kamiah. I know there is a need for that there.
We could also buy the small acrage and buy a new modular home to go on it.
What is the snow fall in Kamiah??????

Default snow fall Kamiah

I don't think Kamiah gets that much snow 2-3 ft. and its probably between Nov-March that it stays. They have warm weather. I live where we get a lot of snow and you can't garden and in Kamiah you can grow tomatoes,so that always tells me it gets warmer sooner and longer.
Have you been to Kamiah? For your daughters conditions you might want to research the Lewiston area to see if they have any facilities available since it is your closet city the next is Spokane,Washington which, is probably 2 1/2 hrs. from Lewiston.
