Absolutely. I would say that while there is almost no racial DIVERSITY, there is an enormous level of racial TOLERANCE and acceptance. People are just people...

Yea right, northern Idaho is extremely racist compared to California. I was born and raised in California still live here will never move out. I have never heard so much blatant racism in a town before in my life. I went to boarding school in Sand point for a year and all I hear over and over again is ignorant racism. Not to mention the town is practically 100 percent white(mabye a few asians).

Yea and also California houses 36 million people, Idaho has around 1 1/2 million. Yea there is some white neo-nazi gangs of our 36 million, but you must factor in in our population to how many neo-nazis there is you will realize it is really nothing, Those gangs were formed in our 32 prisons to stay alive.

Bad argument because I bet the few skinheads that live in Idaho are not even from Idaho...they might be from California or elsewhere.
I have often times seen some of the most blatant racism in large cities where people are segregated into neighborhoods. LA and Southern California is full of racism between the mexican gangs, the black gangs, and the white's.
It is disturbing that a mainly white area can be called racist especially when people live in peace and harmony and are accepting of others, even non white people. But then an area full of minority gangs, no tolerance, violence, and fear is called diverse.
Doesn't make any sense.

It's okay...RLangben is happy at home and so are we.

Tolerance goes beyond race. Some of the most intolerant people I know are among those advocating tolerance. When some people say "tolerance" and talk about the wonders of diversity and the importance of celebrating differences, what they really mean is that they want to celebrate the differences of which they approve. Right now that generally means diversity in race and in sexual practices, and extra points if you practice a trendy modern spiritual path or are nudist or vegetarian--but stereotyping is still acceptable if the stereotyped parties are practitioners of organized religion (especially particular ones), people from small homogenous towns, etc. It's okay to have a daring or adventurous or radical lifestyle, but it's got to be one of the right kinds of radical lifestyles. It's great to be different, but it's got to be the right kind of different.

A blend of Hinduism and Gaia-based Wicca is celebration-worthy; committed charismatic Christianity is not.

Tri-racial nudist neo-socialist--yes. Third-generation bowhunting rancher? No.

It boils down to an attitude of "diversity...but only our kind of diversity"...What I like about North Idaho is that I don't meet that many people buzzing about diversity or tolerance; I just meet people who are pretty accepting of whatever is here and whatever comes in, although they do draw the line when necessary (as with the Aryan Nations).

Yeah, California is accepting because it is so large. But there are a lot of scary skinheads around. More than I saw in Idaho. My friend is half Asian and just moved to Cali from Idaho and she has experienced racism here that she never experienced in Idaho.

I don't know what the draw of North Idaho is when it comes to crazies but even still most other places have way more hate crimes and incidents than Idaho.

Quite funny because in my boarding school it was mostly people from california, we had a person in my program from Inglewood that would constantly have to check people at the local high school for calling him N*gger right to his face(not to mention people he has never met), of coarse they aren't used to people from larger cities that are ready to fight at all times for the slightest bit of disrespect, not to mention for racial slurs. I have never been to a place in California that anyone would straight up walk up to a person they have never met and call them n*gger for no reason whatsoever. This was the same case for what happen with some Hispanics in my program.

Even when a person in my boarding school was from North Carolina, he was a homosexual and people at the local school or the football games would walk right up to him and say "are you a f-ing ***?(With a extremely rude infliction)"(yet again extremely rude and intolerant), funny thing was is he was 6' 3 and from a larger city from the south and knew how to fight and they were surprised when he would beat them up for disrespecting him. The prejudice of this was if he is gay then we can just tease him just for that. Is this the kind of tolerance that you are talking about because I am not really seeing the picture.

I lived in Idaho for a full year and I saw these things happen with my own eyes, these kinds of situations happen all of the time. I don't really know about all of Idaho but in this town there was also a big thing against people from California. Always trying to complain about how we are all moving to Idaho, its like I am in a boarding school chill out. I am here against my will. And stop complaining anyway about the whole California thing we weren't always 36 million people and we don't have super reproduction power we just have a lot of people moving in. We didn't say hey stop coming in you are ruining are State. Closed Minded if you ask me, If you guys are all about its a free country, but Californians can't move in its not fair.

That's usually the case, due to the mainstream media, but when there's a lot of diversity, everybody retreats into their own ethnic enclaves because nobody likes anybody else. Take it from me -- I live in Los Angeles and I'm so sick of diversity I'd love to move where everybody's the same ethnicity as me and I never have to see anybody else ever again. Trust me on this -- you people would all feel the same way.

Then you haven't been to Southern California lately. I hear it all the time. I went to an inner city high school (roughly 70% black) and that's how most of the black students addressed each other! Heard it again in college. Hear it on the streets, on mass transit, etc. I worked as a custodian in college and thats how many of my hispanic co-workers referred to black people. Don't give me the "its ok between themselves" line either. If the word is derogatory, it's derogatory!

In college, I saw a homosexual man wearing a shirt with the word "FA*GOT" sprawled across it like it was some kind of badge of honor. If you don't want other people calling you these words why would you call yourself that? Oh well, such is diversity and tolerance I guess.

And don't get me started on the "immigrant rallies" in LA where racial hatred is cavalierly spewed (mostly at whites). 'Course the media and the tolerance police never seem to find much wrong with that.

I've lived in California for 30+ years and see and hear these things with my own eyes and ears. They happen all the time.
