help making permanant decision move clark fork
hubby and i have a house picked out, visited, saw many 1 mth. ago, love it but will (maybe) be moving to an area not to far out, but about 1 mile south of c.f. "city" and 1/2 mile up a mountain road. hace been reading many good but also scary things such as the losing of power for days at a time. the home is perfect and w/ a few add. i think we can install everything needed to avoid major hardships. from the middle of downtown houston, and have never lived anywhere but this great 4th largest city. i always have been a "city girl", but knowing someday i would move to a cold, mountainous region. i hate only the weather here, but hate it beyond belief. made the final decision to move after going to aspen over christmas holidays. after lots of research, idaho is where we decided upon. is it smart though to move after 1 week visit- saw homes in CDA, sagle, sandpoint, & C.F.? i don't want to lose this house, but i am scared- hubby is 20 yrs. older, & will be retiring. not moving for 2 yrs, but will be buying house now. our home here in houston is perfect but 3 stories and day will come when hubby can't do that, home here exp. and will go ^ in value, hopefully in next 2 yrs. PLEASE HELP w/ good/bad things i may encounter-consider before we sign these papers. sorry so long!

This is not intended to be mean but if you describe yourself as a city girl, and you've only been here to visit in the tourist season, I would worry that the reality of this place might be a bit overwhelming for you once the summer people leave.

I would also echo this sentiment. While you're understandably wanting to get away from Houston weather, this is a serious opposite extreme. Aspen for Christmas is cold, no doubt, but December snow in CO is usually more pleasant than Jan/Feb. Who knows, you may love the bitter cold deep dark winters here...but before you buy a place, especially in Clark Fork which even for here is a remote small town, you really want to spend a week or three here in January or February and see how you like it.

skeetergirl, hope you enjoy Moyie Springs, beautiful area. I have some close friends from there, and they are headed out to visit for a few weeks on Tuesday.
There really is almost no shopping there, and very little in Bonners though I'd retire there in a heartbeat. I've got quite a few years before I have to worry about that.
