With the housing market as such we have decided to try a different approach until it all balances out. We thought we would try out different areas for one or two months at a time but I am having difficulties finding Extended Stay Hotels, Motels, Apartments for this length of time, etc.

I am primarily looking for two areas in Idaho. Northern Idaho from Wallace up to Bonners Ferry and the Boise and surrounding areas.

Looking for clean, affordable, fairly safe extended stay lodging that is furnished with a kitchen for cooking. Hotels seems to be per night, we are looking for monthly rates for a month or two at a time.

The affordability aspect is paramount on a retired income. Can anyone lead us in the right direction or are there properties such as this that we can check out for the amount of time mentioned above?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Search google for "corporate relocation housing"

You will find sites that specialize in furnished homes that are available for a few months (or less) at a time. They also have some links to extended stay hotels.

I don't know if there is anything available in N. Idaho. I know the Boise area has some short-term furnished housing options.

I already tried that but it really seems like they are very expensive. We aren't looking for great ammenities like pools and spas, just clean, safe affordable rates per month for up to 2 months at a time. Surely there are other ways of discovering some of these long term rental properties. I'm sure they must exist but I feel like I am going around in circles.

It would possibly be less expensive to check into renting an apartment on a month to month basis. When we stayed at an Extended Stay in CA it was $100 a night in Central CA.

For Boise, look at these links:

Extended Stay Hotels - showcases hotel suites, discount lodging and short term housing.

Thanks for the advice from all. In fact I did try the various websites provided. I guess I was not realizing the cost would be so high. Well, looks as though it's back to Plan B. It will all work out in the end, I'm sure.

I would find a mom and pop type motel in the local area you are interested in, and try to negotiate a weekly or monthly rate.. Meandering Moose or K2 Inn in Sandpoint... the K2 offers weekly rates for sure.. they're not fancy, but it sounds like you are searching for something more affordable... If you want more upscale, then there is a LaQuinta Inn, and some vacation rentals, but they tend to run $1000+ per month... you might find better deals up north in Bonners Ferry..
