California vs Idaho
I was amused to read these type of comments written by Idahoans. Now let a native Californian speak. Because my fellow Californians and I has been exploiting small towns and villages with our gated communities and HOAs since well before the 1960s, I think I qualify. Are we upset about all the Idahoans upset about all the Californians moving to Idaho? Heck no. Do we believe all Idahoans are bad? No (with possibly the exception of Senator Wide-Stance), but there seems to be a misguided sense of culpability common among many Small-State forum posters. I hate to burst your bubble people; but ALL cities worldwide are becoming overcrowded, and plagued with crime and pollution - your blaming Californians is patently unfair and just so much injudicious shouting at the rain. If you truly want to keep visitors out of your fair state just continue your crude, right wing conservative ranting. I guarantee you – few people will ever want you as neighbors.

Ok he soke his words and now I will say mine.
As a Californian wanting to move to Idaho I can't wait to move in next door to a right wing conservative . Man that will be a change that I am looking forward to.
I do hope they are crude and have a sense of humor because we will make good neighbors.
Some of us people from california would welcome the change and will proove it by moving our families to a smaller rural areas in search of anything but a gated community.

I was born in Whittier California... As a conservative out of my element soon to be Idahoan I hope what you said is true. The expansion up there says different though.
Im not looking for the next state thats going to suck, I want to live with my family in a free environment where people leave you alone no matter what color you are, as long as your a good person.
I think many like myself will be embrased by Idahoans (once they know us), because the last thing we want is to make Idaho into Califonia North.

You do a terrific job of portraying exactly why no one wants elitist, left wing liberal Californians moving in. DESERTRYDER and Trace_Rinaldi will probably be welcomed (as soon as the CA plates come off. )

You all miss the point, though.
Yes, Idahoans don't want people moving here trying to change Idaho into something its not, especially when those people try to change it into where they came from.
But more importantly, Idahoans don't want people moving here period. Because simply having more people here is what turns Idaho into something it's not. More people equal more rules, regulations, change, crime, traffic, pollution, taxes, etc.
You don't want to change Idaho? Don't move here. Otherwise, don't come here with the pretension that you're not changing the place, because you are.

From the number of children in the families in Idaho I know, and the number of children their children are having, it sure seems Idaho's population is changing plenty without all the immigration.

Like any other state, Idaho is open to anyone who wants to move here. There's plenty of room so bring your money and feed our economy.

Actually, it's the "crude right wing conservative ranting" that attracts this Californian to Idaho. It would be a nice break from the left wing elitist snobby busybodies running (and ruining) this state.

You don't find a lot of that here, either, unless you're looking at Eastern Idaho or Canyon County.
Mostly it's a hodgepodge, but overwhelmingly libertarian and/or politically ignorant and naive. Most people (outside of Boise and CDA) don't favor change too much. Here Californians are viewed much like illegal immigrants elsewhere, and most problems are blamed on them.
Farming, ranching, and conservation dictate much of the state's politics, though as Idaho grows so does the red tape.

I'm neither a Californian or from Idaho
Just thought I'd throw in my view. I'm from Ireland and have been in Idaho for a year.... don't worry I will probably not be a permanent resident here or anywhere else in the US. I have brought a few Euros and try to spend them locally. I could be classified as a liberal, but I am also quite conservative. What I actually dislike is the classification.
I can see that it can be difficult for local people with new people coming in. This has happened in Ireland since we joined the European union...and of course in the previous 800 years. Yes, there has been resentment, but this only leads to bitterness and anger and the only people hurt are ourselves...... and we can lay claim to the land for thousands of years.
Nothing is permanent - change is inevitable, though our dependance on oil escalated everything.
I've been to California...hated the freeways ...loved the redwoods
