For all who like to enjoy the various aspects of the 4th of July celebration in Idaho Falls, be it the parade, the Freedom Flag Field (I can't think of the correct name - please someone help me!), the fireworks, picnics or just time off to be with those who matter the most; this year Idaho Falls is adding another player in the line up (pun intended).
It should be an interesting "experiment" to have the Battle of the Bands competition on July 4th. It is usually in Aug.
Do you believe the Battle of the Bands remain part of the Snake River Roaring Youth Jam (SRRYJ)? Is the SRRYJ a better fit for a competition of this type instead of 7/4? What do you think in advance and after the fact?

I'm not sure yet. Maybe it will depend on the bands
If you go to the activities, or want info in advance, please post. It will be good to hear different views of whether the Battle of the Bands was one too many for everything already being done on the 4th. Or, was it a perfect way to fill some hours until it was time for fireworks?
Remember to take a battery powered radio, MP3/radio or whatever you use for FM reception, if you are going to watch the Fireworks with about 100,000 others. KLCE is the station that does the simulcast.
Look forward to more Greenbelt and amenities at next year's 4th. As Taylor's Crossing on the River is now focusing on Marriott Residence Inn, some very nice additions to the Greenbelt are suppose to be added, per McNeil. Additionally, a private consultant who has been working with McNeil has shared some of the goodies waiting for next summer when the Marriott Residence Inn (which will face EAST toward the river) opens.
Just think Bellagio - spraying water jets in Idaho Falls, with the Snake River in the background.
Besides, TCOR, Snake River Landing and the new Pier, let alone the development more in the University Blvd. area, (The Narrows, high end condo area), will allow more and more high quality greenbelt to be enjoyed by more residents.
Hopefully, you'll have a more choices or where to place your blankets, as the Greenbelt will be a few miles longer (I believe) next year. Think essentially from north of University Place to south, down by Sportsman Park. Lots of new areas to find for the 4th fireworks. The new Smith Park (I hope that is still the right name - the park the Smith family donated for SRL) and the ampitheatre going in TCOR alone, will give some additional interesting places to see fireworks.
If you go, take lots of water/fluids, sunscreen, blankets and a jacket. It gets cold before the fireworks are over. Also, take a sense of humor and adventure. Why get upset with the traffic and mass of people? Enjoy the festivities and opportunity to meet new people.
Be careful driving and if you have little kids, make sure you have a system worked out so you take YOUR kids home that night, not children from another family

Planning ahead can make this a fun, safe day. Some parents don't think of how long of a day, or night, that is for a toddler or pre-schooler. Pack like you would for any other outing (including extra clothes) etc.
PLEASE BE SAFE WITH FIREWORKS AT HOME TOO!
Happy 4th of July Everyone.
