Hard to beat Kamiah
Located along the Clearwater River at a lower elevation than most the state so you stay out of the snow, Kamiah is the best place to live in Idaho. Next to the biggest chunks of public ground in the lower 48 and sea run Salmon and Steelhead running through town, what more can you ask for.

Best: Stanley
Worst: No doubt it is Dubois. Sure close to outdoor activity, but its a place with no real future not much chance of getting a good job. People are ok but a bit clannish

And Stanley, is having a perfect day today. The weather is spectacular here, not a cloud in the sky, mid 70s, greenery emerging, snow is gone in town..... Life is good!

A non-LDS friend of mine who grew up in a mostly-LDS town in Wyoming said that's the way she was treated. It's confusing to me, but then I don't have a lot of experience with Mormons. The ones I've known have been friendly to me, and I don't understand why they would be cold toward those who don't share their faith, unless the other people's behavior was obnoxious in some way.
I'm also not used to hearing Mormons put down other churches. Usually it's been the other way around: non-Mormons I've known put down the Latter-Day Saints, and their critique is not infrequently obtuse and/or hypocritical. I'd be interested to hear more about what you've heard Mormons say about other faiths.

Just had the Horse Expo up to Blackfoot last weekend. I do believe there is one over towards Boise direction, unsure of the dates.

The North Central part of Idaho is beautiful......but beware of buying in Idaho County. No amount of research we could have done would have prevented what happened to us, totally devoiding us of all of our property rights and even the basic human need for a good night's sleep from Feb 20, 2009 until May 6, 2009. Rock pits, crushers, pig farms ANYTHING can go on the neighbor's property and you can't do a thing about it.

Best--Boise Area. Spent 3 yrs there, it was awesome. All the conveniences of a city. Good food, good bars. Lots of things to do. I would go back to Boise in a heartbeat. People are very, very friendly and open.
Worst--Pocatello. By far, lived there for 3 years. Smells. Dirty. It's a run down blue collar town. A train runs through it (not a river!). There is a university but its not really felt as the town doesn't really support the university at all--Fraternities and sororities are outlawed. If you aren't LDS, good luck. The town is 60-70% LDS and it is very much felt. There are two good local restaurants, other than that you have to eat at the chains. It is very much a small town that offers little to do other than gossip about your neighbors, it reminded me of Mayberry RFD.
The only good thing about Pocatello is the low cost of housing. For 300k, you can live in a mansion on the side of a hill. Of course, there is a reason why the cost of living is so low. Because it is a not a good place to live and the demand is low.

I lived in Mormon central for 4 years when I went to college in Northern Utah. I never really heard people put down other religions, but basically because it just never came up. They just assume everyone is Mormon, there. If you aren't vocal about your dis-beliefs, you can get along with everyone just fine. My roommates all knew I'm not religious, since I didn't got to church with them every week, but since I didn't argue it with them, it was never an issue.
However if you weren't Mormon, you weren't invited to any social events, ever. I would think it would be worse with kids. I do know people who would never have let their children socialize with children of non-mormons.
