Mormons are people like any other. My non-LDS kids in our small town have friends/sleepovers with LDS kids, just like I'm sure there are other LDS kids who don't socialize with them, just like there are other non-LDS kids who don't socialize with them. IF/Shelley to me seem very diverse, once you get past how many white people there are here. Rexburg on the other hand is predominately LDS.

Post Sandy Downs - South of Idaho Falls, Close to the Idaho Falls Country Club

As far horses go, Sandy Downs between Idaho Falls and the Idaho Falls Country Club has a lot of different types of races. A DVM who now sees only horses is also in that area. A few trainers and other services.

MistyRiverRanch provided us with a link months ago of a national program which also has a chapter in Idaho Falls. I just can't remember the name. Perhaps someone else can.

It depends on what one wants in horse activities. MistyRiverRanch is a pro to whom I punt when it comes to this issue and what is where in ID.

When Boise wasn't able to host the horse races about 3-5 years ago (I think the track was being changed, or built etc.), those folks used the Sandy Downs arena for the Boise races.

I hope this helps you in some way, My Paint Horse. I wish you the best in finding your own special area of ID that meets your needs.

Best: Stanley
Worst: Stanley

It depends on what time of year you live there. Summer is beautiful, of course, with great weather and lots to do. Winter is also fine, with skiing and other winter activities. What is the worst is the extended winters in Stanley.

Some years there is no fall or spring. It just jumps straight from summer to blizzards and sub-zero temperatures. The tourists and the snow-birds are gone and what's left are the grumpy locals.

Spring, or what is suppose to be spring, is by far the worst of the worst. When the rest of the world, it seems, is working in their yards planting flowers and watching the birds in their bird-feeders, people who live in the Sawtooth Valley are still under a cold miserable blanket of frigid snow.

It is not uncommon to have to snowmobile or ski into your house in May. Last year it was -17 degrees (yes, that's negative seventeen) in April during steelhead season.

There is no real commerce during these long months. There's barley a store open; it's almost like a boarded up ghost town; it's depressing.

Why would someone live here? When it is good, like right now, it's as beautiful as any place on earth.

I'm sorry, but as a lifelong devout Stanley visitor, I absolutely hope it stays that way - small, sleepy, remote, and irascible.

My heart would absolutely break if it became an extension of the Wood River Valley, or marked by ranches and getaways for the wealthy like the Bitteroot Valley in Montana.

I believe Stanley is becoming an extension of the Wood River Valley (Sun Valley). The property values and the size of summer homes being built are similar, and there are hardly any families/working class people able to move there. There were six kids in the school last year.
