Des Moines- Is ok people here think it's a big time city when in reality it's just a small city with little to do. The people are nice enough but i need somethin thats got a bit of life to it.
Haven't been to Des Moines, but visited Indianapolis and HATED it. As soon as you got away from the roughly 8 square blocks of downtown, I thought it was really run down, dingy, and ill maintained. I'm sure there are nice suburbs, but as a "downtown" it became my least favorite city I've ever been to, just edging out NYC.

Boise by comparison is INCREDIBLY clean, nice, well kept, and has a MUCH smaller feel to it. You can be anywhere in Boise (city) in a very short time, with several alternate routes to most places. The BSU area is gorgeous, and the airport is a breeze to access (I fly in/out almost monthly).

I can't tell you about the "night life" since I'm visiting with kids for sports and that's not my thing when visiting...but down off I-84 and Cole (or near there) is a huge movie theater that we love to hit in between sports events.
