Yes I'd say it's pretty safe, and more quiet as you move into the Ammon side of things. I live close to Hitt Rd. on the Ammon side, and except for the occasional helicopter delivering a patient to EIMRC, you can't really hear much civilization around you.

There are a few complexes just east of Hitt Rd. between 17th St. & Sunnyside Rd. with a new set being built as we speak. Pretty quiet area, middle class. It's good for a year or two rental situation, but long term, you might want to move away from the 17th St./Hitt Rd. intersection, just gets too congested.
