Default Idaho City

I'm wondering if anyone can tell me about how long it takes to commute from Idaho City to Boise during rush hour. How are the roads in winter? Someone in another thread had mentioned Idaho City to someone looking to relocate to the Boise area, but these cities seem pretty far apart. If there's anyone out there who can tell me anything at all about Idaho City and the surrounding area, I would really appreciate the help. Thanks!

Sydney1128.....I know a little about Idaho City as I was raised in the Boise Basin. I do not know exactly how far it is from Boise to Idaho City, but approx. a 45 minute commute in the summertime. Idaho city used to be the capital of Idaho with a population of over 3000 people.......now it probably has less than 300. The terratorial prison was in Idaho City many years ago.. Also there was more gold taken out of Boise Basin than the state of Alaska. I never lived in Idaho City till I was grown, but started first grade in Centerville, a little town to the west. I started school with 6 other students in the whole school...first grade thru 8th. Idaho City was where all of our shopping was done. The whole area..Idaho City, Grimes Pass, Centerville, Pioneerville, is very rich in Idaho history.

Default Idaho City Living

It takes about 40 - 45 minutes to get to Boise from here. My husband has been commuting to Boise for the past 7 years. Rush hour? No such thing here. Idaho City is a very small mountain town. By Eastern standards Idaho City would only qualify as a village. While many people commute to Boise, there are just as many who work here at the schools, for the county, state road dept. or the Forest Service. The highway is kept pretty clear in the winter by the state road dept. My husband had to put chains on only once to get to work in all the years we've been here. But then we live in town. Those folks who live in the subdivisions like Clear Creek, Osprey, Wilderness Ranch and others have a more difficult time depending on how far up into the sub they live. Some folks have to park their vehicle at the bottom and ride a snowmobile home. But that's only a few. My husband and I love living here. He says he hates going to work in Boise because people drive like idiots down there but he loves the drive home. He finds it very relaxing. The guys he works with that live down in the valley have a commute that lasts just as long as his even though they live closer because of traffic. Hope this helps your decision.
