Kind of odd, considering. Looks like whoever it is is traveling...lots of stuff in the back of the VW. Well, I plan to trade in my Arizona plates very quickly after I move, but not because I am from AZ. Because it's the law.

I hear ya guys. It's just funny because when I moved back home from Cali I left my plates on for a year and never caught any trouble from anyone. I was ok with driving around with cali plates. It's all about how you represent yourself I think. This guy Don't care. Gotta respect that..

Idaho's main license plate is probably one of the prettiest in the nation. I keep all my old plates, and Idaho is my favorite. I look forward to one day having that plate again.
All the same, you're right that people should feel comfortable about driving around with another state's plates, though there will be legal issues with that over time. You can always tell the police you're new, but it's hard to walk into a DMV with a 6-mo.-old lease and get away without a fine, and your license will expire one day. Even in good ol' libertarian Idaho, seems the money-grubbers have a strong hold on vehicle registrations. At least they've kept it cheap and the roads still seem to get better maintenance than here in NM.
Also, as a sidenote, here in NM you only need a back plate. In Idaho, my front plate was always falling off the pointy nose of my '88 T-bird (very annoying and harrassment-prone), so I actually prefer the back plate law here in NM. Sometimes I wonder what the odds are of getting pulled over on a technicality in Idaho even though the NM solo back plate conforms to the law. Any thoughts?

The back plate is the only one required in Arizona. I am vacationing here in Idaho all summer and haven't been stopped regarding the one plate. Was here all last summer without a problem in either Idaho or Washington.

Yeah, that's what I meant by "harrassment-prone". I defaulted to being a rebel when the front plate kept falling off and creating traffic issues. I told officers it was a "safety first" measure, but they weren't too sympathetic. It was hard to rig securely due to some awkward screw holes and the myriad of elements I'd road trip through, but a Stater bar pal of mine finally gave me some zip cuffs, which resisted rust, rain, and heat.

Good to know. I figured as much. Are you aware if you've ever gotten a double take or tailer?
