Small town in Wyoming looking at Idaho
I am from a small town in Wyoming looking to relocate to Idaho.
For those of you that are familiar with Boise, Pocatello, Idaho falls in general. I am wanting to know of what area would be better for me to relocate concerning finding employment. HS graduate, no college.
Just looking for something like Lowe's or home depot for example,
delivery,etc........ spent the last 20 years working for the bottle industry, injection molding, blow molding process technician. Company is now letting people go and I was a part of the thinning out process. So basically looking for a new start in a different area.
Thanks in advance for your reply.

Comparing southeast Idaho to Boise, is almost like comparing apples to oranges.
Boise in my opinion is little California (no offense to my Boise friends ), just more progressive than nearly the rest of the state.
Idaho Falls has the type of stores you mentioned and I imagine most folks are hiring right now as college has restarted and there should be some slots to fill.

Many come to Boise from larger areas so to them it is smaller and an "oasis". But if you are coming to Boise from a smaller city you may have a different experience. Boise is much busier than any other city in Idaho. I worked with a couple people from Montana who found Boise too large and actually moved within months.
For the type of employment you seek I think any of these communities would suit you fine. I'm guessing pay will be fairly similar in each city but cost of living (rent, services, etc) will be less in the smaller cities (Pocatello, Idaho Falls).

you could move to Malad, just about 50 miles south of Pocatello, if you like small towns. There's about 3000 people here.
you could work at Hess Pumice.

I think there is quite a bit of that kind of work in Pocatello. My buddy manages and plumbing wholesaler and is always needing good help for delivery, etc. Not sure if Home Depot and Lowe's are hiring right now, but I'd guess it'd be a good time to get on there too.

You could also look at town such as Star, Mountain Home, or Caldwell. Home prices are good in those areas- smaller and more rural but close enough to jobs like Home Depot and Lowes as well as others.

Just in case the poster doesn't know those cities are in the Boise Area.
Another suggestion is Emmett, Idaho which is NW of Boise. Nice little valley town although I don't know if there are any major box stores there yet. Once Boise starts its next boom I'm sure some growth will occur over there too.

Thank you all for your input regarding my wishes to relocate to idaho.
After looking at the threads about different areas of idaho, I think my best chances of finding employment soon after my move would probably be somewhere in the boise area. So I think I will concentrate on areas in or around Boise. A little more exspensive in the Boise area but more job opportunity I think. Any more suggestions and input on possible job opportunites would be very welcome for me to hear about. Thanks!

Hey gjs,if you haven't all ready, look at the Boise Metro Job thread; you might find some job ideas in there.
