Thumbs up Congratulations - INL Another Impressive Award!

As INL has just won another impressive award, I wanted to make sure others were aware not all of the national lab's work is nuclear.

INL most recently won the 2008 Homeland Security Award with a new development. To read more about PITAS:

INL nuclear materials detection technology wins national security award

Nice work eastern Idaho residents!

Question INL's New Bldg. What Will Be Done Here?

I couldn't find the right INL thread. If anyone does, please feel free to cross-reference.

I was pleased to see the info today Batelle Energy Alliance (BEA) is requesting a new 30-40,000 sq. ft. light industrial and office building to be built on the INL's Research and Education Campus (REC). One almost needs a cheat sheet to remember what all the abbreviations stand for, or at least what they mean this year. Names and abbreviations do seem to change with INL work.

Besides additional INL work hopefully more educational opportunities for advanced studies will be offered by this building. Although, it sounds like this building may house about 100 people and be producing something.

A 10 year lease - to start in 2011. If anyone knows more about the specific work to occur in this building, please post what you can share.

For some reason I didn't think BEA was awarded mgt. of INL through 2021. Is this a new development? Or, is the building and expansion of program X part of BEA's next bid?

Thanks

Lightbulb INL Wins Three R & D Awards: All Have Rolled Out to the Business World

Last week, Idaho National Laboratory, won three R & D awards from the four submitted be INL personnel. This was in the international competition for the

https://inlportal.inl.gov/portal/ser...tory=DA_346222 technologies for which each

Technological categories that won showcase different work ongoing at INL currently.

" 'These three award-winning technologies demonstrate the breadth of research at INL ranging from specified nanoparticle production for energy application to water quality monitoring and cybersecurity research," said David Hill, INL deputy director for Science and Technology. "While energy remains our principal investigative nature, our researchers are leveraging discoveries for application across many disciplines. "

The winners have all been licensed to existing business or start up companies have opened to market the product directly.

The three winning R & D projects this year are:

#1. • Water Sample Concentrator. Licensed to Teledyne Isco, Inc, Lincoln,NE.

#2. • RFinity - Mobile Open-Encryption Platform. For mobile phones, regardless of brand or age. New start up company in Idaho Falls, ID.

#3 • Precision Nanoparticles. Licensed to Precision Nanoparticles, Inc. in Seattle, WA.

If you wabt to know more about these products, especially the RFINITY which will change how we purchase goods/service from all cell phones, I encourage you to read the full article announcing the news and more details.

It's nice to see the INL becoming a larger incubator for future technology, in Idaho, that it has become. More students are becoming involved in all the student programs and more potential employees are hearing about the various work INL is doing prior to graduating from college. Potentially students who wouldn't have thought of doing graduate work affiliated with ISU/U of I/BSU and INL are now looking at the opportunities. Many new workers at INL were involved with INL during their training.

Congratulations INL and the individual designers who created the products.

Question Missions Change, Have You Checked with Sub-Contractors?

Sphene,

They really are doing some cool work there. They are heading in essentially three different directions.

I'm surprised that they aren't hiring Geologists, given all the work with clean up etc. However, that is one area of experience they are probably decreasing while focusing on others.

Is it INL you want to work at specifically? Or, do you like the Idaho Falls area? Or, is it the collaborative idea and technology transfer that leads to new businesses or licensing deals with existing businesses?

Would you be a candidate for NorthWindws in Idaho Falls? I don't know the focus of their current projects and they probably won't be doing R and D leading to the awards and technology transfer. Still, depending on what you want to do, maybe it's an option for you?

It is exciting to know how many international conferences INL has hosted in the past two years, especially about Cyberspace-Security. They just completed another one last week. With RFINITY now a functioning company (trials with college students start this fall), it will be interesting to see if Cyberspace- Security has lost the two very original thinkers, or if others at INL have other areas of expertise they can develop as well. I hope they can.

Stay posted, Sphene. Things change often at INL. Have you checked with the various sub-contractors operating under the BAE master contract?

Good luck finding the perfect opportunity for you.

I have checked out Northwinds before and currently they do not have any openings unfortunately for me! I keep a daily watch on the job listings at INL, so I won't miss my chance if they do offer some sort of a position I could fill. I do like the Idaho Falls area, I pretty much am in love with the state of Idaho and the types of communities that are there. I live in California now (and I promise not to be the typical Californian once I move there, swear! ) and I am getting tired of the heat, the increasing city size/traffic/poor city planning...basically, this place isn't what it was when I was growing up here! If I could find a job in Eastern Idaho, that would be great. I was concentrating on INL because my boyfriend and his family live in Arco, and I would like to live there too If you ever happen to hear of any kind of geology/environmental work, please let me know!

Have you posted your CV on Craig's List or sent it to various BAE contractors? How would it hurt?

Some of the rollouts are in Idaho Falls, I'm not sure what there is in Arco. However, keep tuned here and on INL. Sure, if I hear of a geologist needed, I'll let you know.

Are you qualified to teach at the high school or university level? Not sure what that requires, but it may give you more opportunities for a job in Idaho.

Best wishes on making your dream come true.

Well I have thought about teaching, as I was a teaching assistant at a university here and enjoyed it very much. I am just about to get an MS in geology, which means I would just need to get an Idaho teaching certificate I think. Haven't thought to post on Craig's List, but I will try that. I have sent my resume to Northwinds and to INL and I frequent USAJobs, the HR website for the state and the dept of Labor. I know that there is usually demand for teachers in the math/science, but the pay may not be what I'm used to Currently, I work for a small independent petroleum company, so any job I would acquire there would be in a totally (most likely environmental) different industry. I have looked at some of the mines, but I don't think I'm qualified enough to work in that industry just yet. It's going to be a struggle to find work there, I am sure, as there are many other people looking for work as well, but I'm going to do my best to get there!

Lightbulb U.S. Army Helicopter Sensors Testing at INL

Some interesting news from INL:

"INL was selected to host this exercise due to its expertise in nuclear nonproliferation, background in evaluating related technology and the existence of specialized nuclear infrastructure."

"INL was selected to host this exercise due to its expertise in nuclear nonproliferation, background in evaluating related technology and the existence of specialized nuclear infrastructure."

US Army to test helicopter-mounted sensors at INL Site (http://www.rivercityweekly.com/news/370/17/US-Army-to-test-helicopter-mounted-sensors-at-INL-Site.html - broken link)

FYI, per chance some see more helicopters or other objects flying around. I wouldn't call the UFO line during the time of this training.

Just so I'm clear, I've seen some of the complaints from people all over the U.S., including some in Bonneville and Bingham Counties (Boise area too, and especially Seattle area), but that is entirely different from I'm talking about here.

With a helicopter school training pilots in Idaho Falls, and after doubling in size in Idaho Falls the same company expanded to utilize Poky air space too. So there are more helicopters flying in southeastern ID than ever before.

This post is about the scheduled flights for military training and why INL was selected for this training. I have no more knowledge than anyone else does, who is reading this. Tests may well be done at night. So it may look like all sorts of odd objects are flying around INL.

IF, anyone decides someday to write a thread about UFOs in Idaho and start to link with the official databases, resources, etc. that could be interesting. Some may be surprised to know that neighbors or others have called in reports of events from the past.

It's nice to see INL get assigned or otherwise participate in areas where INL has so much experience/knowledge. Ultimately, I think it helps keep certain programs funded at INL - strictly my personal opinion - as I'm not connected with INL in any capacity.

Lightbulb Three Companies Hiring connected w/INL or Closely Affiliated

:I've been asked by some if I'm connected with INL. No, I am not. I did have a family member work there for many years, but is no longer there. So I encourage all of you who want to work at INL to keep a list of sources, search engines that update etc. where you can get information.

Sage, I hope you won't see this as inappropriate, both given the DMs I've gotten about what specific people should potential employees contact, and the following post I plan on posting.

I just found essentially on Monster.Com (or Jobs.Com) several jobs from 3 different companies affiliated with INL, or closely connected. There are a variety of positions offered, especially from the Atlanta company that sounds like they've just won a contract and will be setting up shop in Idaho Falls. Others may know more. However, I wanted to make those of you who have asked me aware, I have no special connections, I just read a lot and follow the news.

Some of you may want to check some of those jobs out to see if they would work for you.

Good luck to all who have contacted me. I'm sorry I haven't been able to get back to each of you individually. I'd recommend you monitor the news and the job boards as some of the best ways to watch the trends for hiring, besides what each of you are currently doing.

Hoping this post brings someone (or more than one) good luck in finding the right job to relocate to INL or those companies working with INL.
