I live in Meridian and wouldn't want to live anywhere else, schools are great, neighborhood I am in (Thousand Springs) is great, as well as other neighborhoods in Meridian. Close to skiing and outdoor stuff, cost of homes is lower than Boise.

Yes, the sawtooths are gorgeous...You've got several areas that are just plain beautiful. McCall is beautiful, Cascade, Lowman, CdA...In the summer you've got cherry picking and the cherry festival in Emmett, fall you've got apple picking. In the Meridian/Boise area you get snow, but not a lot and not for long. You do get snow in the resorts like Bogus and Brundage. There's white water rafting, fishing. I'm originally from SLC Utah, but would not go back....Idaho is my home and I love it here! People are friendly, crime is low...I have heard locals joking that in Idaho you can forget your wallet somewhere and come back later to find someone turned it in and nothing is taken out of it! When I first moved to Idaho I actually had someone at a grocery store remember me from a prior shopping trip and make the effort to say hi to me...that took me completely by surprise!

I sat down on a park bench in the park in Coeur d'Alene and there was a digital camera sitting on the other end of the bench that had been there for about an hour. A frantic man who looked like a tourist came in and picked it up and said "I can't believe it's still here" I said "Welcome to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho". He got this funny look on his face and said "Thank you!" I think he finally realized that he was in Idaho...

If you do settle in Mountain Home. The guy who owns Blackhawk Customs grew up in Los Osos. He's a nice guy, I'm sure he'd be more than happy to answer any questions you have.
