Default Affordable housing in Rexburg?

Perusing the rentals in the classified advertisement section of the Standard Journal, it seems to me that rent in Rexburg is rather high. I suppose this is to be expected in a college town, but I'm wondering how to find out about more affordable places than apartments that rent for $600 or more per month, or houses that rent for $1,000 or more. Do such places exist in Rexburg, and are they worth living in?

I will ask a coworker who knows Rexburg, but right off the bat I would say check all universities in the area for an office of housing/student services housing referrals. You might also try driving around to look for "for rent" signs if you are in the area.

Another thought would be to contact the LDS church in the area and ask for recommendations on where to find housing. From what I have heard about Rexburg, from LDS and non-LDS people, if you are not LDS (or maybe even if you are) and you are moving there for work you might want to rent in Idaho Falls and commute.
