We are contemplating moving to Twin Falls. We went to visit and look at houses last year and just loved it. We currently live in a really small town on the Oregon coast and are somewhat isolated from shopping areas and so on.
I was curious if there were any gang, drug or crime problems in Twin Falls. Also is race an issue there..everyone seemed really nice when we were there but I thought I would just double check. Me and my mom are both from the islands and girls are half black. Jobs aren't an issue since I work from home. I just want a good place to raise my girls since they are going to be starting school next year. |

Hi, I live in Buhl which is about 20 miles west of Twin. You will have no problems here. There will be your normal grumps but those types are everywhere. Race realy isn't an issue in this area at all and the ppl here do act a lil nicer then in other parts of the state.
We have your typical crime crap and a few others that are horrible. Last yr a man poisoned his three children cuz he didn't want his wife to have custody. The area was devastated by this. I haven't heard anything about gangs here but I am sure that there are some types of wannbes around. From what I understand the schools in Twin are real good but a bit over crowded right now. I do know that they are better than the schools here in Buhl. There was a program on the ID PBS station called Outdoor Idaho and on Sunday it was about the "Borderlands" of this area. If you can get a hold of the Idaho PBS and get that tape or any other about ID that you are interested in. Also go to www.magicvalley.com and look through the paper to see what is going on here. |

There actually supposed to be building a new high school within a couple years. I lived in Twin Falls from 1995-1997 and even though it's 10 years, I am currently planning on moving back. The best neighborhoods to live in are most likely on the eastside of town and out around the college.

We were looking for a house in the sawtooth school district as I have heard and researched that was the best one there.
We also looked at houses in Kimberly and Jerome..any comments on those areas. I did notice that the houses were a little more expensive in Kimberly and less in Jerome but I am worried about the dairy small in Jerome. How is Buhl? I have no problems living in the outskirts just so long as it isn't an hour away..also how is the weather in the summer in TF. On the coast we have pretty normal summers in 80s with the occasional temps hitting 100 if the gorge winds kick in. |

Stay away from Jerome and Buhl. Neither one has very good schools and they aren't very friendly to new comers either. Jerome is a very dirty town and kind of scary to me. You will get more dairy smell in Buhl, and on the Bob Barton HWY that goes from Buhl to Jerome than you will get anywhere else.
As far as schools go you will be beter off in Twin. I home school here in Buhl cuz the district is full of the "good old boy" ppl. It is very much a "who you know and what family you belong too" type of town. I have heard that Filer has a good school system, part of a charter program. They are between Buhl and Twin. Twin's temps are about the same just less humidity. It does help to have ac around August. We are looking at Kimberly to move to but we need a lot of acreage. I was down at Salmon Falls Res today and the difference in temps is amazing. It was snowing and very very cold there plus the lake was frozen. Just a few miles back towards Twin we were back in the sun and warming up. |

I will definitely have air condition in the house we buy. I hope to come this weekend and look at more houses and check the area out again.

When you get into the Bliss area take the scenic route on HWY 30. It will bring you through Haggerman and you can see some of the fishing ponds and maybe some of the springs will be flowing out of the canyon walls as well. It will bring you right through Buhl and Filer as well. You will come into Twin by the Hospital. There is a lot of land for sale out there and you can check out Filer and some of the houses they have for sale. The Twin fair grounds are between the city of Filer and their Highschool. You will also be able to the the Elk ranch and some other lil housing tracts.
There are two ways to get to Jerome from here one is on the Clear Lakes rd through the canyon which turns into the Bob Barton HWY, which is real real smelly this time of yr. Once on Bob Barton you can take 1950 North to the Interstate at exit 157, Wendell or go on in to Jerome on Bob Barton but plug your nose. The other way is right through Buhl and Filer on HWY 30 into Twin on Addison which takes you by Blue Lakes, which is the main drag in Twin. Or you can keep going on East on Addison out to the Kmart area. Blue Lakes takes you clear through town over the canyon bridge up to I-84 but I am sure that it will be real busy this weekend like every weekend. |

Dairy smell in Buhl? Are you sure it isn't the smell of fish or Green Giant? LOL...
I do agree with you about Jerome it is a a dirty town with some strange people. Another town I would advise people to stay away from is BURLEY. We use to go there to Wal-Mart before they built Target in Twin Falls, and people would always give us the "looK"... Twin Falls is probably the best in the Valley, especially when compared to Buhl, Filer, Kimberly etc. As far as schools, I remember that Morningside was said to be a good school, and my younger brother went there. There was also Oregon Trail and and some other school that's by the college. I don't know about Sawtooth, although I do know its by the high school |
