Hi,
In CA many years ago. It was accepted that most farms would be harvested by immigrants some illegals because the pay was so low, no one else was willing to do it. My family, which by the way were Swedish/Irish immigrants in the early 1900's, were very poor and also worked the fields. My grandmother lived in Chicago, she moved to CA and worked cooking for mine workers. My mom picked grapes with me sitting in the row next her, I was 2 years old. We as a family would pick tomatoes when I was older. We have come a long way. But I would not have changed the experience. You get to know people and their families and see past the labeling. Unless you are American Indian...I think just about all of us come from immigrant families, some of them immigrant when our country was young. I'm sure the folks living here in the early 1900's thought all Swedes and Irish should go back to their country. In some ways nothing has changed...in other ways we have come so far in our thinking and acceptance of others.

Izzy

I to when younger worked in the fields and orchards around our home with many other Americans .Yes we all have come from some other land this I agree with but time has also changed from the early days of this land and to day just like back then there is legal and illegal immigration . The whole of it works down to a very simple thing your here legally or illegally and no matter what why you chouse to come here you also at that time chouse the out come or consequence of that action. If you are here illegally and you knew that coming here you also knew that if you were found out you would most likely be deported but you chouse to come any way . I also believe any nation has the right to limit who and how many can enter there borders to live. I believe this is done also for the safety and wellbeing of all who are already there and for the one's just now coming in. I do not believe in this country we would have such uproar about immigration if it was all legal. But I go back to my saying earlier your ether here legally and if so I wish you all the greatest this land offers or your here illegally and if so I do not believe you have any right to enjoy or receive any benefits or rights that those who went threw the processes have. As there is only the legal and the illegal period and this country has not closed off all immigration but has a process to come here legally. When you decide to not use it then you also have chosen the consequences of that action or the lack of benefits because you are here illegally

I live out in Castleford ID, about 20 west of Twin. It is true the power is cheaper here but the wind is horrible and it is very farmy! This place is the Dairy Capital of Idaho and you can smell it every day all day long. Twin doesn't get the wonderful smells like we do here. Plus you would be centrally loacated, within three hrs of Idaho Falls, a couple hrs from Boise and just about 45-55 miles from Jackpot Nevada. Sun Valley is about two hrs North of here and Craters of the Moon are about 2.5 hrs away. Plus tons of ski areas all within a few hrs.

Twin Falls is one long city with two main roads, Blue Lakes Blvd and Addison Ave. All of the City's major businesses are on those two roads. There are a few places that are open 24/7 but it is mostly a typical Idaho city. There is no WalMart here in Twin you would have to go to Jerome to shop there and that is just a few miles from Twin across the canyon. My favorite thing to do is to drive down 1000 Springs Rd next to the Snake River and look at all of the orchards and some times stop and get a peach or pear. My sons go fishing on the Snake and we ride the trail from the canyon bottom to Niagra Springs park. It is a beautiful ride. There is also Haggerman Ponds where you can go fishing or just sit and read like I do. There are several golf courses here as well.

I agree with you on Twin looking like Modesto. There are a few rolling hills around twin with some monster mountains to the south and west. It has it's own type of beauty that is for sure.

I agree with Magpies you should come up here and rent for a bit to see if you like it here. I have been in this area for a yr and am still not use to the smells. The best part of Twin is that more ppl than not are very friendly and are willing to help or have a nice big hello or smile. So far Twin Falls County has been the friendliest place that I have lived in ID.

Sorry there "dantastic", but this country was settled by folks moving about In another post you were claiming your Mormon heritage, they too migrated, that's how they wound up in UT and ID.

Americans are nomads, there's simply no way around it.

The stores will not be open like you’re used to. The gangs and graffiti will also not be what you see in S Caly but there still around just not as in your face yet. I know working in TF and Boise I did see my share just nothing like some other areas of the country. O ya Idaho is also a state run liquor lics set up beer and wine grocery stores only other wise plan your visit to the state run store
All for all it will be every thing on a smaller scale then what you have now both the good and the bad. With longs travel time between one so called big city to the next.

To believe these politicians talking as if they'll solve the problem quickly is just not realistic, it's typical pandering for votes over a hot button issue.

Everyone's so concerned with the US/Mexico border. With regard to homeland security I'd be MUCH more concerned with the US/Canada border.
We saw the effects of the crackdown in illegals last grape harvest in the Napa Valley. Farmers could not find anyone willing to work in the fields, no matter how much they paid. Consequently, most of the grapes went to spoil making the wine production low and driving the market up. I found it to be the height of irony.
Closed borders make for a great opportunity for greedy people to benefit off the misery of desperate people. Businesses profit off of importing illegals, they don't have to report them to the IRS, pay them decently or offer benefits. Smuggling people into this country is a billion dollar industry. The government LOVES the benefit of illegals. Corporations profit and taxpayers foot the bill. All they have to do is inflame people and create an environment of hostility and bigotry toward the people that they exploit, while they profit off of the decline of the working class and expand their pockets. People scream about cracking down on the borders, and pockets get fatter and illegal importation increases.

Have been through Twin Falls *once* and noticed that it's rather flat except for the Snake River Canyon where Hwy 93 crosses the Perrine Bridge btw I-84 and Twin Falls. The Hwy 93/Blue Lakes Blvd area just south of the Perrine Bridge has been thoroughly modernized with restaurants, stores, and so forth.

Once out of that immediate vincity, it's more of a quiet semi-rural neighborhood that feels as if it's from the '60s or '70s. It's hard to predict whether you'd be happy living there or not as everyone has a different perspective as to what works for them.

Generally speaking, it's not only the location itself, but the mentality of the people living there is quite different from what you might be used to in Cali. In short, the Twin Falls community might not be as open minded yet they're more friendly.

I would suggest renting a place for 1-3 months before coming to a decision on whether to buy a home there or not.

Dantastic and others of like mind...

I know there are many from Cali who do drive up various prices, and I can see how irritating it can be. However, many of us simply want a better, safer life for our families. You would want the same thing, in our position.

We are considering the Idaho pnahandle for relocation, and I can tell you we would be excellent neighbors and would not want to change a thing about Idaho. We don't have piles of money to drop on a huge home. We take good care of our own property, we are friendly, helpful, kind, and I believe we would be an asset to any neighborhood.

You know, you could have lousy neighbors who move in from right across town. Because they are natives of your state, would that make them better?

All we ask is that some one give us a chance before you judge us.
