Default Mountain Home

We looked at moving to Mountain Home many years ago, but found a place in Illinois we liked. The kids are grown now and we are looking to move west of the Rockies again. What is the current scoop on Mountain Home? Good-Bad-Otherwise? Any other places in S. Idaho as nice or nicer? I have heard that the winters are harsh, but better if you live in one of the valleys. Where are there valleys deep enough to keep out winters anyhow? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

We were also stationed in Mtn Home about 15 years and moved to Boise when we retired cuz we thought we had to live in a big city. We have since changed our minds about city life and now prefer a smaller town so moved back to Mtn Home. Its great because you can enjoy all the amenities of Boise but not the hassles. Mtn Home looks a lot better now than 15 yrs ago but still needs some good restaurants and a recreation/community center as a way for townspeople to gather. The newly created recreation district is working on trying to get funding for just that. A step in the right direction. Real estate prices are lower than Boise. The base still is the main influence but the city is trying to diversify and a big cheese factory just opened - creating new jobs. We've always liked the high desert and think it has its own unique beauty. The Hagerman valley, down the road, is beautiful and growing, as is Mtn Home. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize there wasn't much of a rec. district there. I would have thought that with the Base there they would have had a bit more. Still, we think it is worth a visit.
