Default Towns near Idaho falls?

My husband and I are moving to Idaho from Texas so he can attend diesel mechanic school. We are hoping to find a small towns near Idaho Falls with cheap rent (like 500.00 or less). Anyone have any ideas? (no lectures on climate and politics, We're ultra conservative and we have a four wheel truck, so I think we will do ok.)

American Falls is WAY too far to commute to school in Idaho Falls (over 1 hour). Blackfoot is a little closer (20-30 min). Ideally, look for something around Ririe, Rigby, Ammon, Ucon or Shelley. Depending on how large of a house you need, $500 might be tough to come by based on what I've seen in the paper lately. There are lots of rentals right in Idaho Falls too. Good luck!

Not sure you'll get $500 unless it's a small apartment in IF. Small towns nearby (might be repreating the previous poster; Iona, Shelley, Rigby, Ririe, Ucon, Firth.... How far is your husband willing to travel to head into IF on a daily basis? That can be a factor as there are others but would take a little more time.
