You have made the best decision of your young life. A wonderful world awaits you. One with clean air, open spaces and the freedom to enjoy them.

After a year in Idaho, if you visit Calif you will both wonder how you ever lived in that messed up place. I grew up in Lake Tahoe and can't even bring myself to go back anymore.

Get out of that traffic and political prison and enjoy your time on earth!

Yup. I have to fly to SoCal this weekend, and I find myself dreading it. We have frost covering the ground, snow on the mountains around, crisp air, the sound of snow tires (sounds like ping-pong balls chasing you), and highs in the 30's. And I have to go to coastal South Orange County, which I used to think was the best place in the whole world....amazing how perspectives change...I'll spend most of my stay wishing I could leave and get back home...

There is POST academy in Meridian, you're close to Boise (10 min)...My karate instructor actually trains the officers at the POST academy in Meridian...you should be able to get a job as an officer in Meridian, Boise, Eagle, Nampa, Caldwell, Kuna..there is an infinite possiblity there...Hope this helps!
Meridian still has areas for horses while still being close to metro area..you get the best of both worlds!

I go to Tahoe all the time...lovely place, minus the touristas. I am anxious to make the move. I have definitely decided on the area of northern Idaho between Spokane and Sandpoint. I need that airport and there's a POST academy up there somewhere(cant remember where off hand). Ironically, my brother is going to move up there also... Thanks for all the info guys 'n gals!

SacTown11, I'm late to this thread and it sounds like you've made up your mind as to where to move, but just wanted to add that Pocatello has a law enforcement program at ISU.

Thanks! I have decided to focus on the western and northern parts of Idaho. I'm not too big on high desert climates. Thanks for the info though!!

Default Idaho is on the list

New member here just introduced to these forums by a friend. Hope you don't mind me putting in some questions on this thread but we're interested in the same type of free living, open space, and little government.

Right now I'm in England with the USAF and only have a few months left before I separate and return stateside. From Michigan originally, I'll be heading back there for a short time to help my parents out, but will be looking into jobs and places in Idaho. Michigan, though pretty friendly to gunowners and hunters, is heading down the California/Illinois/East Coast path in many areas, as far as regs and taxes.

Firearms are a major passion of mine; I like to shoot my rifles, raise animals for my own meat/milk/riding, and breed/train my own dogs, all on my own property, so I need to be able to buy a nice chunk of land.

I prefer forested land, probably because of growing up in mid/northern Michigan. Friends have been trying to get me to North Dakota but it's too flat and empty for me. I have a 4 year degree concentrated on homeland security but my experience is in electronics.

From this thread, it seems like Northern Idaho is the place for me. Anyone have other thoughts based on the info I've provided?
